Search newb they say,,search...
search on a vBulletin setup is frustration and even using " most relevant " and google leaves nothing but 10+ yo post's to read at best..
or is that the result of "members" not wanting an old subject re-hashed even tho something may have changed in the last 10 yrs ?? or 5 yrs ?? or maybe changed just from a year ago ?? :)

So here is something i dint find about chrome grill's ,,or dint show up with a search ??? :)

On ebay they sell 1/2 in chrome pin stripping.
cheap !!
removable.
i wanted to try it.
i want a LINCOLN chrome grill !!

this is just super thin material,,not the thick vinyl stick on stuff.
it did not lay on well,,seems the "teeth" in the grill are not straight.
curved and bent..
after applying in a straight line many wrinkles showed,,no way to lay the stuff flat !! :)
about halfway done disappointed i started to remember,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
plastic ,,ABS ,,vinyl welding.......

besides soldering i have a hot air unit for BGA re-seating and plastic welding.

first,,any of this plastic stuff,,,,vinyl, abs, any of that stuff is made from melting it into a mold.
before it get's melted it has a shape.
when it is re-heated it is again able to be re-shaped.
if it is overheated it wants to return to the shape it was before.
to work with it you need to get it to the right temp to work or mold it.
not enough heat it wont work,,to much it reverts.

laying the grill on the bench and adjusting the hot air and some careful experimentation i found the right temp.
just before the tape wanted to revert it shrunk itself longitudinally resulting in a perfectly smooth and tight application.
i think the heat may have also made it stick better too :)

so wrinkle free and bubble free i think for a cheap and down and dirty easy to do ,,see how it hold's up chrome grill ,,
it turned out ok :)

as you can see from the pic it is a pretty good close up.
and there is not a wrinkle or bubble to be found.

I like the way the chrome " teeth " just float there in the black :)

I think a good hair dryer with adjustable temp would work as well starting on a low setting.
as you heat the area,,waving heater back and forth to not burn one spot,,you will see the wrinkle start to shrink,,watch until it's gone and rub down.

now to search on ABS welding and see if there is something i missed there....

hope maybe this will help somebody and encourage them to give it a try..

Here are a couple more guys who put them on their grilles.

http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/forum/showthread.php?12779-Ls-Grill

Some nice looking stuff there but not even close to what i did,,..

i used pin stripping tape,not a kit.

and a TEN year old thread ????

the posters didnt say what the material was.
no installation notes.
no instructions.
no tip's
no hints.

nothing useful.

tnx for the link anyway,,think i missed that one when doing the obligatory " search before posting " and missed a ten year out of date with no current or useful info thread.

just the same tnx for taking the time to respond,,,gives me more stuff to look at.

i find it sad that ten year old info is considered current here.
if every member here took their technology on their car or their communication device and dialed it back to 2005 i wonder how acceptable that would be to them ??

you realize a lot of the info we are forced to get by the search or get flamed group and we dont want anything new ,or clutter up the forum with redundant post's group is only a couple years old from being able to get a drivers lic !!! ?>??

The newest car is almost 10 years old......

I simply posted a link where others put cheap stick on chrome on their grilles. Who cares if it ten years old, it still shows what a grille looks like when aftermarket stick on chrome is applied to a Lincoln LS grille.

And thank you very much for that link..and tnx for taking the time to come back and comment.
i enjoyed seeing the old pix,,the product i saw i didnt like but thats just opinion.
the prob with 10 yo old info is so much can have changed.
even the glue on stick on products.
the quality and prices of cheap stuff.

As far as "cheap stick on chrome " goes, and it seems you said that with disdain,,i fooled an enthusiast today with my grill.
he got out of his CTS-V and started admiring the LS.
he recalled all the lincolns he owned ,and caddy's,,etc...
he thot i had repaired the grill,,not changed it.
looking close up he could not tell it was not factory ..
"THAT" is what has changed in ten years,,,the cheap stuff is better quality and better looking.
as parts become more scarce for a 10 yo car AM stuff is filling the void....why am i still seeing 10 yo suggestions on parts ??
i think ,,,,,,,,,,never mind...........................

why am i still seeing 10 yo suggestions on parts ??

because there were no aftermarket parts 10 years ago, and surprise, there are still no aftermarket parts today, just the same 4 cheap poor quality parts and even fewer OEM parts then there was a decade ago.

Well,,i can see you completely missed the point so no need in going further.

...............perhaps shift your attention to color matching that redneck bumper instead.

That's an accent statement,,have you no fashion sense ???

Or it really says "I replaced the jacked-up stock bumper on my luxury car with one from a junkyard and don't have the money to have it painted".......

See these patch-worked cars in SoCal all the time.

Well that's partially true :)
car came with the bumper.
car had a salvage title, now rebuilt title and i have no real history on it beyond a simple car fax.
I would like to drive it awhile and gain confidence in it before doing a lot to it besides cleaning and standard care.
priced a reputable repaint @ $300 so the cost is minor...my gravel driveway 1/2 mile long however is not ! :)

I used to winter right off clairmont mesa blvd,,seen plenty "custom" cars :)

Glad I found this thread, searched for it, will be picking up a nice 04 this week. The factory grill has a broken vertical "fin" and will be replaced, it has the chrome top and black fins. The car is black and thought that a black ls grill with chrome fins would look good. Now I have a few ideas on how to go about adding the chrome.
