I am having a problem with the stereo controls on my steering wheel. Lately when I go to turn the volume up, the radio "seeks" or the CD goes up a track like I'm using the buttons under the steering wheel instead of the ones on top of the wheel. Also, my airbag light is flashing 3 times, then twice and eventually staying on. Quik told me to check the plug under the seat first and I did - the wiring looks fine.
I thought I read somewhere on here that the cruise control not working is another sign of a bad clockspring, but that is still working at the moment.

Does this sounds like replacing the clockspring might solve both problems?

Thanks

I'd would say most likely so. There is a post on here by quick on how to change it. It is not to bad to do i did mine. One thing i remeber is it would have been easier if i would have put the steering wheel all the was out instaed of in when doing it.

yep - the radio controls and airbag connections all go through the same ribbon cable inside the closkspring.

Thanks - looks like I will be giving Max at FiveStar another call....

I agree with the bad clockspring diagnosis. I just replaced mine. I had the same volume control symptoms you described. I also replace the volume switch first thinking it maybe have been that instead, but no luck, it was the clockspring. One thing I learned during the replacement is the AutoZone "loan a tool" steering wheel puller does not bolt up to the LS steering wheel. Loan the 2 jaw gear puller instead and place the hooks in the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions. Also before you start make sure your wheels are pointing straight ahead. The new clock spring is shipped with the clock spring "centered". After you have it installed and before you installed the steering wheel remove the gray plastic tab that keep the clock spring from turning.

Good luck.

Thanks - I'll let you know how I make out when I change it.

I'm still trying to fix a misfire problem, but that's a whole 'nother story. It's still showing a misfire on cylinder 3 even after 2 different coils and a spark plug change!!!! Fuel injector maybe??

how bout my volume controls and track seeking controls dont work, they work sometimes but mostly they dont... but the media button works fine... i have an aftermarket deck so that might be the problem but the installer was supposed to install something to keep the steering wheel controls... does this sound like a clock spring problem, or just a problem with the install? the guy said that whatever he installed to keep the steering wheel controls to the aftermarket deck was a sensitive thing, is that true? or is it the clockspring?
