Hey everyone

So let me get to the issue at hand. When I'm driving over quick bumps I hear a clunking sound coming from the front end n the center of the vehicle. My first thought was struts but all is tight and no oil plus I replaced them about a year ago. So now I'm thinking it may be the sway bar mounts. But I do not have a lift to check, so has anyone else had this problem and can anyone direct me on how to check to see if that's the problem. My ls has 150000 on it owned it since new in 2001 and has 20's on it just some general info. Thanks in advance

Jack it up and take a wheel off. (Insert here standard safety warning regarding the use of jack stands). It should be relatively easy to examine both the 'dogbone' connectors at the ends of the swaybar for signs of failure such as grommets extruding. The 'pillow-block' mounts for the bar should be looked-at the same way.

FWIW, at 150 K you're very likely to find such a problem!

i had a wicked clunking going on with mine, sway bar bushings where the culprit, replaced them now she is as solid as the day she rolled off the line.

that many miles, and your probably due to have most of the suspension replaced if they havent been already

Another vote for sway bar bushings. Mine clunks bad over bumps as well. I did the front brakes over the weekend and checked the sway bar while it was on the jack. My sway bar links (the" dogbones" described by cammerfe and mine were fine. Grabbed the sway bar next and jiggled it front to back the up and down and it rattled. I'm guessing that after 131kmi mine sh!t the bed too. Btw mine is a gen1 as well.

Do an advanced search for sway bar bushing and be sure to search for relevancy instead of most recent posts. If you want to tackle the replacement yourself there are a few very informative threads on the forum.

Just replaced "all" of my suspension. I still have a small pop from time to time (depending in the type of bumps) but not a clunk as u described. Bushings could be the root cause but no guarantee....

Are you sure it's the suspension and not tire noise? Not trying to insult you or anything, just that the POS continentals that came on my car make a pop sound sometimes. I do still expect "some" suspension noise though, as it's bound to happen
