The government and auto dealers have partnered to give customers cash for their clunker.
Man, this program doesn't say much for the quality of the product coming out of Detroit.
Vehicle as young as three years old are now being considered "clunkers".
There is, and has always been, a stigma to that term.
I felt extremely insulted when I received a letter from a local dealer offering me cash for my clunker.
The vehicle in question is my 2003 Dakota R/T pickup that I bought new, and has only 42000 miles on it, and looks better than new.

This is about as far from being a "clunker" as the moon is to earth.
Clunker my a$$.
Bob.

yeah its ridiculous the people that have the real clunkers that probably should be replaced dont qualify.

Not sure whether or not the whole car gets crushed or not...but I remember the crusher laws enacted not long ago where a dealership would get a tax break to remove the car completely from the road...ie crush it.

A shame imho. Lot of folks cant afford a new car, and now the source of used parts is being altered/messed with. Not to mention a LOT of those so called clunkers are even nicer yet than what a majority of people are driving in many many areas of the country.

I hope I dont find myself cursing the whole deal when I need some "96 only" part for my baby that is obsolete and salvage yard only...grumble.

Yep, even if it runs and drives and looks decent. They have to destroy the motor, i.e. brick on the pedal until it goes BOOM. They aren't allowed to sell a single part off the car, it all goes in the crusher... It's a damn shame, a lot of decent cars are being destroyed. This program makes *ZERO* sense, but then again we do live in Opposite-Land.

damn, i was hoping i could find a new fender for my car because of this program. so instead of making some money back and parting it out, they get a tax cut for destroying a car that could be in good shape. what is this country coming too

should be called cash for gas guzzlers not clunkers.. I think the program may make our cars / car parts more valuable!
