ok 1 more question :D my rear end makes a clunk if i give it gas and let off, if i give it gas and keep it down it doesnt. i checked fluid in it, its up to the hole. but i noticed the "arms" or whatever you call them. the rods with the rubber boots on them move, they go side to side and twist alittle. think the twist is normal but dunno if side to side is? []<-->O<-->[]......like that..... passanger side moves more then driver side. what could it be? thanks everyone:p

i think your talkin about the axle?? a little movement is ok, how are your u-joints there should be no play in those or maby slop in the rear end

well i cant get ahold of the driveshaft. that metal plates in the way, i forgot to metion that theres greese on the driver side axle, where it looks like a sproket type thing just before the boot, where those bolts stick out. looks like old greese but im not sure, kinda thick and really dusty and more grey then any other color. ill go outside right now and see if i can get ahold of the driveshaft. thanks for advice everyone. Oh and also if it is the U-joint about how much is it to have it replaced.

ok i looked i was able to twist it but 5-6cms cm's and left to right maybe 2-3cms its all a rough guess, not to good with measuring.....it doesnt wable or wiggle, also didnt move what so ever back and forth. dunno much about drivetrain so i cant say much other then what it moved. but your all probably right. thanks guys

is the boot ripped?

no, theres some rust here and there on the body underneith but otherwise the axle shaft the boots driveshaft even the airbags look fairly new in it. its all pretty clean but the belly of the beast. wish i had a camra id take a picture of it, its just the driver side with the greese but otherwise both sides look the same.

"i forgot to metion that theres greese on the driver side axle, where it looks like a sproket type thing just before the boot"
that means your cv boot is leaking out all of the grease so if thats the case id replace the axle you could rebuild it but if its clunking its prob. shot, and the sprockety thingie would be your abs excitor ring thats what your wheelspeed sensors look at

yea but the greese thats on it looks old, and i checked in the diff. and the greese is full. but i noticed the driveshaft twists alittle bit.

ok yesterday i checked it again and cleaned it up where it looked like old greese, ill check it again later but i also tried the axles and drive shaft again and they didnt budge, dunno what the problem is but my tranny will still downshift occasonaily. i dunno what the hell is going on with this car but i dont know where to start, oh also my check engine light comes on quite abit but it goes off everytime. i had greese changed at 100k like it says in book, i changed filter and tranny fluid. new plugs i have to get wires in afew weeks and i also noticed that the hose to the pcv valve is cracked, but stays on. Thats all i can think of right now if i remember or notice anything ill post ofcourse but if anyone thinks one of these things can cause it to do that then.......maybe it is i honeslty dont know much about newer cars. thanks everyone.

for the check engine light you are gonna have to pull the codes. Also fix that pcv stuff fixed.

ok thanks, on the way home this morning it down shifted alot, could it be the clutch maybe? someone metioned throttle possition sencor......where can i find it. a friend of mine also old me to take it to autozone to do a free diegnostics test on it or is there some how i can find what it is myself thats causeing to downshift. i just wanna drive it off a cliff at this point, but when i look at it i couldnt imagen getting rid of her:( ......

Don't go to Autozone!!!! They don't know anything about the Mark VIII tranny!!!

They don't even know which tranny goes with the Mark VIII. They can only look at there computers and Autozone has the wrong tranny in their system. I know this for a fact and talke to them at their coroprate office. They have no clue.... Even the tech that they sent me to talk with told me this...

You will be given the wrong information at Autozone.... Go somewhere else...oh and not AAMCO they know almost less than Autozone...

autozone will pull the check engine light codes though so if they give you a number you could probably come here and someone here can tell you what it is.
