Hey everyone, was driving home and car started to loss power then shut completely off. Tried to start again but will not fire, cranks fine. Checked the codes, p0133 and p0153 came up. so to my understanding both front o2 sensors are malfunctioning. my question is, is it normal for 2 o2 sensors to go out at the same time? or is it something else? Especially on a car with 70000 miles.

its normal for them both to go out if you have a modded exhaust, or a leak. sensors could be bad too(contaminated), do you have a tune or have used fuel injector cleaner recently?

This code indicates the engine air fuel ratio is not being adjusted by the oxygen sensor signal or the ECM as expected to do so, or not adjusted as often as expected to do so once the engine is warmed or under normal engine use.

- Check and fix any exhaust leaks
- Check for wiring problems (shorted, frayed wires)
- Check the frequency and amplitude of the oxygen sensor (advanced)
- Check for a deteriorating / contaminated oxygen sensor, replace if necessary
- Check for inlet air leaks
- Check the MAF sensor for proper operation

My ls is bone stock, so no tune or modded exhaust. I must have a leak somewhere or 02 sensors that prematurely wore out. Also, i did fill up at a gas station i usually get gas at, like a half mile down the road from where i broke down. could that be related? I will check for leaks tomorrow if i cant find any i will go ahead and get new sensors. Just shocking to me that the o2 sensors would go out so early. Thanks Lincoln Jealous

wait i just thought of something how i am i going to check for leaks if i cant get the car started? guess that settles it new o2 sensors for me

Faulty O2 sensors are not going to stop the engine from starting and running, just from running well. I think that it is far more likely that you have some other issue and that the O2 sensors are okay. They are just doing their job and telling you that the mixture is way off.

Yes, it could be related to the gas. Maybe it had a lot of water in it. However, if so there should be a lot of other stalled cars near this gas station.

yeah the car wont start at all, it does turn over. The gas i have mixed feeling about, i have been going to this gas station for years and never had problems, but then again it did lose power and die right after i filled up. So what do you guys suggest i check/do? i already checked fuses. It did start for a little while, but felt like it was running on 2 cylinders then cut off again.

So i think i figured out my problem. As i mentioned i stalled a mile after i had put gas into my car. Well today i went back to the gas station and noticed they had bags over the '93' gas pumps. i go in and ask why the pumps were covered and they told me they had water in the underground gas tanks. So i told them to give me the owners number. my question is would water contaminated gas cause these codes and a no start issue? I say yes, what does everyone else think? what should i expect the gas station to pay?

They should pay the price to get it running again.. If it's running now, they will probably just refund your money you paid at the pump..

No, still has the same problem nothings changed. I really hope the station pays the bill because i am flat broke right now.

Yeah, i am prepared to go that far. I hope it doesn't go that far, but we will see. Any steps i should take to make sure they pay up?

I would keep the receipt (of course) and log everytime you go and speak to them.. I'm not really a court man so I can't really give too much advise.. :)

oops made first mistake, don't have the receipt. I know the cashier that sold me the gas that day. I also talked to her today. I am gonna call the owner of the station tomorrow and see what she thinks. The cashier admitted there was water in the tanks, so i am sure there will be minimal problems. All these symptoms point to bad gas right?

1. Stalling
2. Code P0133 and P0153
3. No start.

I left the gas station and a mile down the road it stalled and would not re-fire. i can get it to start but idles extremely rough then dies. Can anyone assure me that these symptoms can be a cause of bad gas?

Just had the same issue last night after filling up and adding a bottle of Royal Purple fuel injection cleaner. The engine never missed a beat so I cleared the code and hope for the best, hopefully not a bad load of gas!
