Hey, i dont post on here all to much. Actually have only done it twice i just enjoy reading what you all have to say!! I've learned a lot of stuff about my car from just reading. I've searched the post about my compass and have found a few things on it. I have a problem.. when i'm going north it says south and when i'm going east it says west. It seems like a very easy fix but i really know nothing about where its located well i think its in the trunk... Anyways, i'd really appreciate any help you guys could give to me. Its a 1998 mark viii. Thank you so much!! -Tyler!

dont quote me on this in my 95 hold down compess and reset at same time and a message will come up asking point the vehicle true north or something like that you want the maual way of doing it im not sure of what its called but you hve to drive your car in a circle for a couple of second and it will be fine ..... and on my 95 the compass is located above the mirror dont no if there is another commponent in there ..good luck........chris

Thank you! Yeah, i've tried the compass + reset thing. It gets me to the compass menu and ask me to set the region zone number. Then if i push anotehr button i believe its reset again it'll ask me to circle the car.... well i'll do that and it'll work for maybe 3 seconds and go back to the opposite direction again. I cant figure out how to get to the TRUE north thing though. I read something about it in the manual but in my opinion that book is just about worthless! Thanks for your help though. I know what your talking about on the mirror i think i'll mess around with that thing tomorow after i get home from school!

I Had The Same Problem ...and U Know What ..not For Nothing..it Wound Up Fixin It Self,i Dont Know How..even After Doing What 95lsc Said..and For Like A Week Or So It Still Wasnt Reg'in Right...then Ater That Week Or So..it Was Back To Normal ...weired Huh!

Same on my 98 LSC after about 3 minutes (after driving in a cricle for 5 minutes) it went to being off again. Then one day the following week I released it was accurate again. Been ok for almost a year now.

I had a similar problem once. There are multiple adjustments that can be made to the compass. I didn't know which was best so I just did all three.

I mounted a cheap magnetic compass to my dash and turned the car till that compass said it was pointing north.

I then used the message center buttons to set the car's compass to true north.

I then did the electronic calibration. My service manual says to drive the car in a circle at a speed less than 3 mph when calibrating the compass.

There's also a zone adjustment feature.

Press and hold the RESET and Compass buttons. When prompted press English/Metric.

In the car's manual, you'll find a diagram that shows a map of the continent and different settings for the part of the continent in which the car is located. Press the RESET button 'till the appropriate number appears on the display, then press English/Metric again.

Thank yoU! My goal is to get to the TRUE NORTH one... but i follow the exact instructions in the manual and it just will not do it. It'll say "Compass Zone error" so i'm not sure if its just messed up or what. But thank you for your help!

At least you have a compass. On my old '94, the magnets in the subs threw off the compass, and it never worked. I drove around in a circle for like 20 minutes one day, and it just didn't work.

I moved the sensor on my 94 from the rear shelf to under the rear seat, works pretty good, but I belive the latter models are on the mirror...

Yeah, i think thats what the big box is under the mirror. I jiggled it and it decided to work for a second... so i'm hoping maybe its some sort of short. Does anyone know if they make that unit module thing any more? I'm trying to get teh car back to where all the functions work on it. The compass is a barrier now!
-That does suck that your subs threw off the compass. Those things must have a strong magnetic field in it!!

Thank you all so much. I dont know what i'd do without this forum. I have 2 lincolns 89 mark VII and 98 Mark VIII.
Thanks again!
