I had hope that they would rebuild there image I always have, with the legendary names that made them so popular, not with some euro trash badging technique. They are american cars not european.

when was the Aviator a legendary name, Because I didnt think it it was. Go crap your pants about something else, The only Legendary name they have left is the town car and I didnt read in that article about them changing that. Nuff said

Instead of focusing on the name change, which really is a matter of opinion. You should focus on the fact that all of their new cars are based foreign platforms. Mazda6 and Volvo, as stated in this article. Me personally, I would rather have names than abreviations or numbers. I think Lincoln is going to try and imitate BMW to a certain extent. Their new designs are smaller and more fuel efficient by way of V6 engines. I think they will call the theory "Matchbox luxury".

when did this become news, We had ford car built with a mazda platform before, it saves time and cost. It is hard to start a new platform you need to design it, test it and then build the mechines to make it.

I think ford is going to be turning around soon, the new mustangs are selling good and the new fusion is a nice looking car and there trucks are the best.

Its just all the baby boomers thats are turning 60+ and buy a toyota, I say at toyota I see more seniors then Denny in the mourning

I never said "aviator was legendary". I mean all the past names like the Mark series, Continental, and Town Car. The chance of any of those names reviving, especially Continental and Toan car of ever being on a Lincoln for a very long time. (the TC will be the next to die knowing the idiocy Lincooln is goin through right now) The Zephyr is a nice car, along with the rest of The lineup. But it is mediocre compared to almost everything else out there. As stated by others, Lincolns are now based on Mazdas and Volvos and are all going to become FWD. Yes I know this I have known it for a long while. The reason I posted this is because it is kinda like the last straw. Lincoln has set in a bad(mediocre) plan to revive the Lincoln name. Well There plan sucks and many on here will agree(some disagree). And using alpha watsa badging is the icing on the cake to make it worse.

Wait...didn't they already do this...the LS?

Also I think this shows Lincolns lack of interest in reviving the Mark nameplate if they're going to call the Aviator the MKX. This name doesn't make a lot of sense for the Aviator either. Look at Cadillac...

CTS=Catera Touring Sedan (although they won't admit it)
STS=Seville Touring Sedan
DTS=Deville Touring Sedan

The new ones...XLR and SRX don't have historical names associated with the new designation...

Other companies such as Lexus do the same for the majority of their vehicles. While some like BMW use the name to refer to series/engine size.

I think Lincoln's main issue is that it relied on a legacy customer base that is eroding more and more rapidly as time passes on. So they are making an attempt to rebuild their image. My opinion is that they need to figure out what type of company they are (luxury cars...trucks...crossovers...what?) and quit trying to fill every niche with cookie cutter, what's everybody else doing, type vehicles.

I like the way BMW names their cars. As soon as you hear the name, you know the series and engine size. Makes sense to me.

because lincoln wants to be like everybody else in the car business! lincoln used to be innovators not imitators, so they should just leave the nameplates alone and be unique!

look here, ford ain't the only one that's lost it. cadillac has too. think about it, what was the first thing everyone thought when someone said cadillac 20 years ago? HUGE cars that had a very good ride. lok at them now: tiny little plastic squares rolling along the highway looking like every other car! cadillac and every other car could be told apart. now they all look the same. i am tempted to buy a buick century 95 because it has the lights across the back, the only other car that has that is the 90 sonething towncar! that tells me that we just need to start all over with the thought of car design!
