so i have a 2001 Lincoln ls V8 (3.9L) with 180 000km on it. me and my father have replaced the alternator that was making a loud screeching sound with a re-manufactured alternator. after that we replaced the transmission with one of a 2000 Lincoln ls V8. we did the swap because the car was not shifting properly, it fixed the problem. we also installed a android double din head unit. so what im having problems with is that when i reach high speeds (+130km/h) it seems like the whole computer resets. the head unit powers off, the speedometer along with the other gauges resets, headlights goes out along with taillights. i still have full control of car. meaning i can accelerate/brake/steer. there is also a brand new battery in it. any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

What alternator? OEM? Auto parts store special?

What warning lites are on? A bad alternator would certainly turn on the check charging system lite.

Could be a bad SSP relay. Loose wiring. Bad (wrong) alternator. ...

I'd get a 12v volt meter that plugs into the cigarette lighter since it's your only direct source to 12v line. You can keep an eye of how many volts you're getting when you're at high speeds. I don't top past 14.1v and I don't think you should be passing that either. Best way to go is maybe a replacement alternator. The shop probably just gave you a HO alternator and those don't play well with these PCM's.

+1 on the over volting alt.... although i believe it will shut off completely when this is a problem...IIRC

I drove my LS for months with an Advance alternator. It charged fine but the check charging lite was on the whole time. The lite went off when I put a MC alternator on.
