i'm thinking about converting my car back to the air ride suspension..the strutmasters i have on the car make it handle like garbage..it makes every little bump i go over seem like a huge pot hole:D and makes these boggle noises over the bumps:confused: ..is it worth the time and money? if so, where should i buy the parts from? thanks for the help

I am going to do that too, as soon as I get the $, I figured about 700 on mine (compressor, relay, 3 height sensors, 2 bags, 2 shocks, solenoids, and misc plumbing fittings).

I'm sorry this happend to you, we often try to tell people exactly what you are describing.

Then the "coil spring" contingent always comes in and makes the coil conversion sound like some "high performance upgrade" that turns your luxury car into a ferarri.

Two or three of us will always say "dont do it"..then 10-12 coil spring zealots will come sway the persons opinion by the sheer numbers of "postive" results.

that just goes to show that when you post a question on a message board, it's not the "majority" vote you should listen to, it's the very vocal minority group that is often shouted down by the majority.

I commend you for converting back, or atleast considering it.

Yeah, i have been convinced to just repair mine.
 
I'm going to have a full air ride system for sale soon. Everything from the bags to the compressor, to the lines, etc...

My tokicos are going on in a week or two.
 
This is the smartest thread I have ever seen...

GO BACK TO AIR RIDE! Its what these cars were made for... You will be happy
 
COILS SUCK!!! i hate them i got coils and went back to all new airbag from arnott, which are better but also suck, my car with the stock 98 airbags will hit the ground before my bags bottom out.

the arnotts would bottom out way before the car had a chance to hit the ground, they would bottom them out over medium size bumps going 70-80. another thing is the one bag i got was clocked wrong, aka the bag had creases in it i had to tweak it a little to get it to go on, but arnott returned it. definitely not as nice at a stock pair but definitely 100 percent better than a set of coils

if i were to buy a new set of bags i would have to scout ebay for a set of good looking low mile used 98 bags over the arnotts they can be found for around half the arnotts price, but that's just me.
 
I can see it both ways....I miss the bags sometime.....mostly in the city.....but on the HWY it isn't that bad....as far as better handling......coils all the way.....now I also do very high speed curves (live in the corn fields).....and by high speed I mean 2-3 times posted speed for the curve.....I have a couple favorite curves that I go run......with the bags.....85 tops, and it was pushing bad.......with the coils......110 still pulling hard out of them........I know I will catch crap for posting this......but this is in very remote, light traveled roads.
 
I drove my air bagged car on a 3/16's mile asphalt oval track.
74MPH down the straights and 55 thru the corners.

for those that dont know a 3/16's mile track is SUPER SMALL and DEMANDS a properly handling car AND a driver that can drive.

I dont see ANY measureable "advantage" by having coil springs.
In fact, the "stability" you "perceive" is likely due to the additional weight.

I am certian that I could take the same corners as you with my air bags and not wind up in the weeds.

I'll give you a lap or two to get the hang of it, then I'll drag your ass around in circles until you "put er in the wall" trying to keep up.

Unfortunately my 97 was rear-ended and totalled in April. But after 3 months of patiently looking for a good deal on another 2nd gen (I almost gave up), I got a 98 LSC a couple of weeks ago. Let me just say that I love the air ride. I drove around for 2 years on air, and 4 years on coils. And the coil ride quality was fine. But I'm 41 now and I like a fast AND comfortable ride. There is simply no substitute for air suspension. Plus, I still have all my old air parts except the compressor for replacements. When the compressor goes out in my new car, I'll just get another compressor.

To each their own. But to me, air is better.

Hate is a strong word.

Out of the 4 tracks within 100 miles HMP is the least favorite of mine from a racers standpoint.

But, in the lines of this post it's the only place within 250 miles that has an asphalt "OVAL" to run on...and they will let you run on the track if you "bend the right ear on the correct person".

When I ran my car out there I drove it at about 7/10th of both the drivers ability and the cars ability.

Since I wasn't out there driving 11/10ths of driver and 15/10th of the car the track owner allowed myself and a few others lap the cars around the track.

we even had a very cool little race between two lightning pickups.

Since it's a "bad idea" to run full body street cars with glass headlights and window in a "side by side fashion" we started one lightning at the starting line and one of them in the middle of the back straight.

Tiff ran her car out there solo, I ran mine solo for about 20 laps...lol

One of the guys from the track said our lap times were "dead in the middle" of a Legends Car field.

it was a h000000t!

I doubt I would put it in the wall.....I also didn't just do coils.....WHOLE front and rear suspension was replaced, full poly bushings, addco bars front and rear, edelbrock shocks, drilled and slotted rotors, sub frame connectors are soon to be done, then on to the other braces.

And as far as driving goes.....truck driver, raced karts on dirt, and road course, dirt stock cars, flat track ATV, and have out driven all my friends since childhood through the curves......we raced everything we have owned....and nobody would challenge me if it was going to involve curves....I'm not trying to blow my own horn, just letting you know that I have more than average knowledge, and skills when it comes to setting a car up to sustain the punishment I throw at it.
