I've got my crossover tube out to paint and figured it would be wise to replace the o-rings at this time. They look kinda flattened and one has a little tear.

Dealer only for the o-rings? Or any generic ones good enough?

Generic will work. I can't remember, but I either bought mine at home depot or in an assorted pack in the HELP! section at AutoZone.

I agree any generic will work Just a hint put a little lubricant on the new o-rings to help them slid in better .. Like sex :))

I should sand the crust off mine and paint it too. I still haven't gotten the plug out of it yet.

Try to get the plug out before you take it off....

Dr. Paul had a great comment about those stubborn crossover caps. After you get them off. Weld on a large nut to make it easier to remove the next time. I had to use a torch, PB Blaster and channel locks to break the cap free on my '97. Completely stripped out the 1/4" hole.

I've had the cross over tube out once before and got the plug out at that time after it was reinstalled and I was filling. I stripped out enough to make me not like the way it looked so I ordered a new one, never put it in, but will now.

Mine actually looks like it has plier marks on the side of it.

This worked famously, BTW. A 17mm wrench really makes this job much easier. :D

Paul.

FYI the correct dealer issued size for the O-rings are O.D 1.25", I.D. 1.05", and the thickness of .10".

Local parts store had the right size diameter but only had 1/8"(.125")thickness, way to tight to even force in. They also had 3/32"(.09375") thinckness, to loose for me to feel confortable with.

I'm getting mine at the dealer.

Do you guys all live back east? I only ask because both my x over cap and my friends came right off with little effort. both cars are from the southwest though. No rust out here, We are lucky.

^^My friends 96 and my 94 both had easy to remove crossover caps as well, his car is from NM and mine is from TX. I don't see how that area could be affected by rust caused by the environment, but maybe it can. Or maybe the 4 of us are just lucky.

Mine was leaking because i never put a gasket on it, so at work one day i took a n ac o ring and matched it up plugged it back in tightened it and havent had a prob since
