I have a 2004 LS V8. I am replacing some coolant hoses and i have a few questions. The aux. pump located on the bottom of radiator on the pass side , what is it's purpose ? Witch sensor operates it ? The Goose neck housing that goes into the top of block or intake , is there another thermostat in it as well ? Does anyone know of a very dependable type of thermostat to use ? Also any other tips , secrets to make the fuel consumption a more faster experience would be gratefully appreciated.

You really should replace all the plastic parts now, including the degas bottle, and the main radiator hoses.

Its primary purpose is to provide coolant flow to the heater cores so that the climate control works in the winter time. If it fails, you can still get some heat if the engine is above idle. It also does some emergency engine cooling if needed. The PCM turns the pump on or off based on demands from the DATC and based on engine temperature (determined by the oil/coolant temperature sensor and the cylinder head temperature sensor).

I assume you mean the 9N499 elbow. It goes to the top of the block, it is the coolant outlet from the water pump. No, there is only the one thermostat.

Yes, the OEM Motorcraft one. You can buy it from Jaguar for more, but it will still be the same part made at the same plant. Why do you believe that the original is not dependable. So far, it seems to out live the plastic housing that it is mounted in. If you are having overheating problems, it's very unlikely that the thermostat is to blame. Air gets sucked in through tiny cracks in the plastic parts and blocks coolant flow.

Buy another (different) car, perhaps a Jaguar S-Type R...
