I took the car out arround the block today to warm it up to see if i had bubbles in the resovuar (checking for blown head gasket). I noticed that i have a real lack of power. It feels like i have a 3500 stall converter in there now. Also i put it on cruse at 50, and my instant mpg for 1 mi was btwn 14-16mpg! thats usuially my BEST mpg rating (@50 that is), and then i took it off cruse, and let it coast, and it was getting a best of 26-27mpg going from 50-40mph. I had noticed a little bit of the fluid disapearing from the resovuar tank, so thats why i wanted to see if there were bubbles from a blown head gasket. I pulled back in the driveway, and it was still cold, popped the hood and looked in. No bubbles. I let it idle for a min longer, and it warmed up, and as soon as the thermostat opened up (or it just got hot enough) it started shooting a little bit of steam from the coolant crossover tube and a little leak from there. So im assuming thats where the coolant is going. Does anyone know whats up with the fuel mileage thing? Im assuming this is a little beyond the air in the cooling system.

Could your transmission be on its way out? If it feels like you have a 3500 rpm stall, then it could be your transmission. Might want to get a tranny flush before going any further if your transmission feels bad.

He has a brand new tranny from Geno, though he beat on it pretty bad when he got it back.

Ok.. 1st.. don't know why the mileage has dropped... but if you seen steam from someplace, that needs to be addressed ASAP. if steam is getting out when hot, air is getting in when cold! could lead to localized overheating in the heads/block due to trapped air.

no, its not slipping, it just feels like a 3500, as in im not getting any power. it just feels like its free reving, like if i had a 3500 stall.

i need to get a new crossover tube, i know that. But im wondering about the low power and mpg.
