Has anyone run into this following issue: I'll go to fill the car up (Sunoco 93 Octane), run it for a short while and then observe that the check engine light comes on. I'll then throw a couple of bottle of STP Fuel Injector cleaner in the tank, top it of with another gas station's 93 Octane gas, run it for about 40 miles and the check engine light goes away.

This has happened three times, with at least the last two associated with gas from the local Sunoco station. Is this related to the gas or is there a potential problem lurking around the corner (btw, the car has 95K on it, just chaned all the plugs and coils).

I'm also looking for recommendations on a brand of tires (I'll soon need 4 new ones) and a place to pick up either a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for the 01.

Lastly, I'd like to pick up new front headlight housing (mine are all hazed over and look like crap)...any recommendations?

Thanks,

jd

Next time a CEL comes on, get the code pulled, you may have a bad part somewhere. Try some different gas too if you want, but I would get the code pulled then go from there.
For tires, it depends if you want all-season ones or summers or whatever. I like the Kuhmo Ecsta ASX. those are all season high -performance tires and are a great tire for the money.

For the headlights, you can take them apart yourself, there is a how too at LSKoncepts.com, or you can get some new ones off ebay. Taking them apart is not that hard and you can clean them out and polish the lens and clear them out. It really comes down to either you want to do some work or just buy new ones.

Welcome JD, and is that Ludlow, MA by any chance?

As for the gas, the LS only requires 91 octane so you're just wasting money with the 93. I'd try filling it with a different brand of gas to start. What kind of plugs did you use? You may want to double check all the electrical connections to the coils and make sure they're seated properly on the plugs. How does the car run when the CEL comes on? But if it happens again, get the codes pulled at Autozone for free.

Do a search for tires on the forum... there's a ton of threads on the subject.

You can polish your headlights if you want to take the time. It's pretty labor intensive and the results are marginal. Best bet is to buy a set off Ebay; there's always a bunch there. Just consider if you want to run CCFL angel eyes in the future... If you do it yourself, you'll want headlight housings with grey adhesive as opposed to black adhesive. Ken's site, mentioned above, has the info.

Welcome aboard!

Ludlow Mass is correct!

I checked out the ebay sites, looks good. I just need to decide if I want a new set or used OEM.

The car runs fine when the light is on. I had Linocoln do the replacements so I assume its all "Genuine Ford' parts.
I'm really leaning on the gas. I will be purchasing a diagnostic code reader (just picked up the service manual on e-bay).

As far as 93 vs 91...the price difference is only a couple of cents, so I've always gone with the higher grade.

Where in MA are you from?
