I'm a dummy and i went to change the cabin air filter yesterday & i busted all of the cowl cover clips or pins (the things holding down the cover. i think there were 5 or 6, and i just pryed them off w/a screwdriver instead of pushing the pin out from the bottom first... so they are all broken & unuseable. Does anyone know what the part number is for the replacement pins?? i went to autozone yesterday & they just have the generic ones that are too small... i'm about to order some stuff from fordpartsnetwork, so i figured i would order those too.. anyone know the part number or the official name of those things??? i'm so dumb... :Bang

oh well, trial & error right? :dancefool

either the dealer or auto body supply cheap stuff tho.

I popped the nylon rivets holding the plastic cowl in the back of the enging compartment, in order to get to the cabin air filter. Most of these rivets broke. There are nine rivets total. New ones are about $2.30 at the dealer -- that's about $20 to replace rivets.
I now know that it's not necessary to remove more than five or six to get to the filter.

Then I discovered that Lowe's has a better design, which is easier to remove without damage, for 52 cents. They are called Hillman 1/4" Push-In Nylon Rivet, part H#881207. These look nearly identical to the original, but a small screwdriver can pry up the center lock to facilitate removal.

FYI, you don't pop them up from below, you push down in the center. Then, once they're out, you push the center cylinder up, set them in place, and push the center cylinder back down so it's flush with the rest of it.
