Is it just me or do some of you find the buyers on Craigslist to be mostly dreamers, strokerers or just people out to scam you. As some of you know I repair and sell Mark Viii parts as a hobby to feed my addiction for my own cars. I get replys from people to trade lawnmowers or chainsaws or say they want to come and buy something and never show after texting and emailing you 10 times. The best ones are the ones that reply by asking for your phone # or email address even though it is in the ad. I also get the ones asking for my paypal address saying the price is fine and they are buying the item for their son when he comes home for leave from the service but somehow the money never shows. Please tell me others run into this, that is why ebay exists. Thanx for letting me vent. Bruce

Biggest pet peve, not leaving a phone #. How in the heck do you expect to sell something and leave no way to contact you!? I'll allways find a great deal and no way to contact a person.

And lowballers. You post something up for a decent price and they want you to pretty much give it away!

That one is just a scam, there all written a little different but usually before I open the e-mail I can tell if there trying to scam me or somewhat interested. If you know the scams and know how too properly meet with people allot of good can come from CL. I’ve gotten several jobs, made some decent cash back in the day and bought/sold most of my cars all on craigslist. Way better then what eBay has become.

I don’t often leave a phone number on my ads because I don’t want that to be public knowledge but I always reply with it in the e-mail. But pictures are my pet peeve, how can you sell something without picture? The worst ones are the ones that post up stock photos. If I’m shopping for MK8’s I know what they look like but I want to see what your rust bucket looks like.

BTW: I apologize by the way for coming up short on our deal, I tried to convince the wife but we need to buy this house before I can buy parts again. Just wish some of my stuff would sell.

Also Mileage of a car. People never list the mileage a car has on it. The ultimate worst ad on craigslist would be.

1. A person selling a car
2. Selling my____ because of _____
3. No phone number
4. No pictures
5. No mileage
6. "the car is in perfect condition, it just needs new tires, the a/c is broken, and wont shift out of 1st gear. But I replaced the air filter 50,000 miles ago" And asking KBB value for the car.

Someting like that, on to the next add...

I low ball all the time, the problem is no one know how to negotiate. The "seller” is always asking more then what the product is worth and as a buyer I'm trying to get it for less than it’s worth. Sometimes people don’t know what they have and low ball works, other times people get butt hurt over the fact you think there junk is not worth a damn thing and never reply to you with a counter offer. It's like the art of haggling is gone. I'm not great at it but I'm getting better. Most people don’t know that you can negotiate the price of a new car; the general public seems to think sticker price is permanent. Even TV's and mattresses you can usually haggle a little bit on.

So don’t ignore or get offended, give a valid reason (sell them on why they should buy junk) why you want the price you want and try to lower it and see what their reaction is. Like I said it is an art and nobody does it any more.

I understand low balling, but I never sell "junk". I see people asking new money for garbage all the time. That is just rediculous. On the other hand, I'll post something in great almost new condition, and ask a pretty low price just to get rid of it fast and I still get someone asking me some crazy low price.

I've seen it where the fill out the title for the ad and put a pic or two in, and it looks like they fell asleep on the keyboard. Also I was trying to sell my dads collection of car parts and I'd have people emailing me about car loans, car insurance, buying a new car, they'd ask how many miles the valve covers (that is what was for sale) had on them

The valve covers have 100k miles on them are are needing a rebuild soon.

Yeah, the part about never showing up is ridiculous.

Just a couple months ago I had an old craftsman lawn mower that still ran and worked but was on its death bed so I had it listed for free...just wanted it out of the garage. A lady called sounding desperate and NEEDED this mower and said she would be right over in 10 minutes. Never showed and never called again.......just one many examples.
