Bose system sounding crappy
I had the same problem with my 99 STS - I had to replace a speaker (part number at the bottome of this reply - the speaker retail price is about $183 / but if you have a good parts guy - you can probably get for around $115.
GM put out the following TSB: Speakers - Distorted/Noisy Sound
Bulletin No.: 00-08-44-003
Date: April, 2000
Subject:
Distorted/Noisy Sound from LH/RH Front SID Radio Bose(R) Speaker Assembly (Replace Front SID Radio Bose(R) Speaker Assembly)
Models:
1998-2000 Cadillac Seville with RPO UX9 Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint YU260745 for 2000 Model
Condition:
Some customers may comment that the sound from the LH/RH front side door radio Bose(R) speaker assembly is distorted or noisy.
Cause:
This condition may be due to a misalignment of the voice coil internal to the speaker. The condition may be aggravated by exposure to the combination of high outside ambient air temperatures and humidity. The misaligned voice coil creates the distorted or noisy sound.
Correction:
A new front side door radio Bose(R) speaker is now available. Replace the UX9 front side door radio speaker with the new assembly, P/N 25717924
