Hey everybody...

Did ALL gen1 and gen2 VIII's cruise control buttons in the steering wheel light up with the dash lights, if so, how do you change the bulb. Mine dont shine at night and I want to repair them. Hopefully without making the airbag blow up in my face!

I don't think they light up at all.... At least not in my gen 2 since i've own it.
When working around the air bag always disconnect the battery.

Mine do.

The ones in my '96 do. It looks like the only way to check/replace the light source is to (properly) remove the air bag from the steering wheel to access the switches.

Before removing the air bag disconnect the battery ground cable, then disconnect the positive battery cable and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply energy. Once the air bag is removed store it face up where it won't cause a problem if it pops.

Note (at least for gen1); when the battery has been disconnected or reconnected some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its fuel trim. The car may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the fuel trim. This is normal and as far as I know there is no way around it. You'll loose all your presets too of course.

wow mine don't light up, never have - never knew they did!

yep, they are green like the lights on the computer switches.

I believe that 96 was the first year for the lighted controls for cruise, my 96 had them, my 94 does not.

my 95 has them and i think my wrecked 93 does,i'll check that when i get it back from disassembly.

Then 95 was the first year, 93's and 94's do not have this feature. There was a thread on this before the board crashed and it was shown that 93 and 94 model years did not have this feature available. newviiiowner owns a 93 and I do not want him tearing his car apart just to discover that it does not have this feature.

then i don't have it either. glad it;s not one other broken feature on the list :)

Ok, how about the Window/lock buttons, I would presume the same basic procedure, once you get to the actual switch??
