Got this as an E-mail today!!!

Everyone should know this.........

NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN OR ON ANY WET PAVEMENT WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON.

Highway patrolman have said that if the cruise control is on and your car begins to hydroplane -- when your tires loose contact with the pavement your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed and you take off like an airplane.

We all know you have little or no control over a car when it begins to hydroplane.

You are at the mercy of the Good Lord.

The highway patrol estimate a car will actually
travel through the air at 10 to 15 miles per hour faster than the speed set on the cruise control.
The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the drivers seat sun-visor - NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning.

We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed-but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry.
The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.

You might have saved a life.

Besides the fact that this is only common sense, Cadillac incorporates a feature called 'Adaptive Cruise Control.' Designed for those who take their thinking cap off when they get in the car. When the system senses slippage it immediately turns off the cruise so you don't loose control.

Tell the patrol men to put that in their pipe and buy a real car. I'm positive that any luxury car will have this feature.

I had a 92 Achieva and was traveling down a very gradual ramp from one freeway to another in the rain with my cruise set at 70. The back end began sliding and because the cruise was on, my reaction to the situation took 3 times as long. Any other time just lifting from the throttle would have corrected my slide, but this time I ended up spinning into Interstate 70 in somewhat heavy traffic. Ever since, I don't even consider cruise in the rain.

i say dont do that, and dont drive with tc on either, its too much of a crutch

Just to prove people wrong, I'm gonna go try it... fly in the air? woohoo? funny i've done some serious :q:q:q:q, but never flew thru the air for having the cruise on in the rain... hey btw don't flash the lights at that car that has the lights off... he'll turn around and kill you.... like they did to that kid "Mikey" from Life Cereal... um.....

wtf? where did thatcome from? btw, i got over 2 ft of air through a bad intersection, that you nrmally slow down for...its definatly somthing to do if you get the chance

what happens with the cruise on and TC? Do they basically cancel each other out? I'd assume so (unless your like me and automatically turn it off as soon as you step foot in the car, but I also never turn the cruise on!)

same thing

its just like TC and ABS if you love driving and know how to handle your car well then like me you hate it all

TC, CC, ABS. They all are about worthless. Like Jibit said, turn off the TC as soon as ya start the car.

you are a nut you know that right? hey we goin to joysey sunday or wa? call me.

If you're driving around with the cruise control on in the rain or snow, you get what you got coming to you.

If the TC is engaged the cruise will turn off.. That's what I'm trying to tell everyone in my first post.

Correct. Thank you for seeing the light.

Additionally I would like to say that Traction Control and ABS are both safety features that work and work well. In certain instances when you become stuck in the mud or snow you may need to turn off the TC to get out of where you are. Other than that they are very useful in the rain and snow.

It's not that I don't know how to handle my car, it's just a safety feature, and it works.
