I promise to nicer if you promise to be smarter.
Has anyone had problems with any misfires? This weekend, the Mark threw a code 301, IIRC. It resolved to #1 cyl. Misfire. $98 Later, the Stealership couldn't give me a reason why. The tech said Fue Pressure was good, Coil was good, and the sparkplug looked great.

Suggestions?

Trust me its the wires, and if its hasnt been done before you will need a set of long (and i mean very long) needle nose plyers. As well use the factory wire set there actualy cheaper and fit better, no matter how careful are you will pull the boot and leave the wire end on the plugs thats where the plyers come in. Been there done this.

Trust ME.... he does'nt have wires, He hs a 98LSC. they used COP ignition. Frogman...check the boots, they are prolly cracked.

Yes sir, I was planning on closely checking the boots on the coils, AND swapping #5 coil with #1 coil this weekend. I just replaced the #5 coil approx 4 days ago, so I know it is a good goil. Then, I will clear the MIL, and see which cylinder misfires once the MIL comes back on. If #5 misfires, I will assume it's the coi boot and I'll replace it. If it's #1 Again, I'll know for certain it's not the coil.

I had a 301 code a couple months ago, it wasn't the plug, I replaced the coilpack (aftermarket for half the price) and no more problem. I do not trust stealership's. 94M5 is probably right, check the boot. I have had to replace those as well a year before, if they are the original ones they are VERY brittle.
 
Ciol replacement

Can anyone point me to an article that has a step by step on how to access and replace coils? I've had 6 go out over the years and I don't plan on paying anyone else to do the next two. TIA

It really simple.


Anything on top of the COP covers needs to be removed to gain access. From there, there should be 2 10MM bolts holding them on. remove those, and you will see the coils mounted in the cam covers.

there should be nothing holding them down, and should remove fairly easily. From there, it's pretty straight forward.

be sure to check if there is oil on any of the boots if there is you need to replace the valve cover/spark plug hole, gaskets. the oil and the heat will actually turn the boots to mush and will fall apart in your hands
 
True, however oil acts as an insulator. The issue would be right above where the oil has pooled and and the boot is disintegrating.
 
help!! I have a 1993 mark that is not running on all 8Clys I replaced the spark plugs,fuel filter and there's know change I do know if I start pulling wires one at a time while running to see which cly could be dead I found # 3 with know change. when I pull the the wire off I do see a good arch could this still be wires? or injectors. any thoughts??

On a 93 you could also have a bad valve spring.
 
Why would you replace your fuel filter when trying to fix an ignition missfire?
