hey people! i got an issue going on here,,,you see well, im thinking about trading my 2000 lincoln continental for a 2001 navigator...its so nice and its in perfect shape with 110000 miles...well the check engine light threw a code that reads cylinder #8misfire and the engine shakes and sputters a little, now the dealership doesnt want to fix it because the guy thinks that it may be a bad motor... am afraid, but i want the truck so bad.. i think that its just a coil or spark plug or injector...i just dont want it to be bad compression on that cylinder, because then youll have to do alot of work,,,so does anyone had this problem or is it common for this engines to do that..please help!

Bad coil(s) is normal for 110k, but with 110k spark plugs need a change also. Easy way to check is with the engine running, unplug the #8 injector, if their is no change in the engine (still just as rough) go ahead and buy it, it's just a coil or plug. Also pull the dipstick out and look at it, not the color of the oil, your looking for glitter or milky substace in the oil, not above the oil mark. Then smell it, it should smell like oil, not gas or sweet smelling

I would buy it if:
No change in idle with #8 injector pulled
No glitter or milk on the dip stick
No gas or sweet smell on the dipstick.

im gona try what ground zero says...but this is not a common problem with these type of motor right? i ask because i asked a mechanic about this problem and he told me that the navigators that he looked at had the very same problem due to low cylinder compression, and he scared the sh...t out of me...so im guessing that it needs a tune up because many people dont do the tune ups because we all know its a pain in the ass!!

The injector test will tell you if the cylinder is bad. If you pull it and the rpm does not change it means a Injector, coil, or plug are not working. If you pull it and the rpm changes, that means the injector, plug, or coil are working.
