After two weeks of hard shifting, and the transmission acting up, the check engine light finally came on. I've been taking it really easy, so only god knows what it is this time. Do you think I should get the tranny components like vb, sp, and a pcm reflash as well as whatever is wrong with the engine now? Any idea what it could be or if the tranny can make affect the engine.(The light is solid, so i dont think its misfiring)

Could it also be from using 89 octane fuel?(the previously fouled plugs and coils)

Having the check engine light come on could be a good thing if you've been having problems lately. Now you can take the car to Autozone and have them pull the codes from the PCM. At least that will give you an idea of what you're up against.

I think I'll just take it to lincoln, my dad would kill me if i tried to do it myself. its still under warranty so it should only be a 100 dollar deductible plus a warranty on those parts

I just like to know what is going on with the car before the dealer starts swapping out random parts. I always run a diagnostic before I go to the dealer. (if I have time) Even when my cars are still under warranty. That way I can do some research and don't have to take the dealers word that they fixed the problem.

Get a diagnostic (for free) from autozone, post the code on this site and we can help you reseach the problem. We won't tell dad.

If the dealer swaps some parts and clears the code and the ls still doesn't run right, your at the dealers mercy.
No code and no research = no peace of mind.

lol, im bigger than my dad but anyways thanks for the advice, that does make sense to me, i didnt know they didnt scan it at the dealership

yes - the low octane fuel could cause a engine light to come on.

One way to understand the depth of the problem is to simply disconnect the battery (undo the 8mm bolt on the grounding strap form the battery to the body) for 10mins and then reconnect.

drive the car around and see if the light comes back on. If it was the octane and you do not have any left in the tank - it shouldn't come back on.

the car really really shudders in park, drive, and delays shifting, especially reverse, sounds like a tranny problem

shuddering in Park is not likely a trannie problem, you never know, but not likely.

I am curious. Does it shudder more when the engine is cold? Mine does this when it is cold, but after it is warm, it is smooth. I swapped coils from our other LS which does not shudder, and it did not help. I may start troubleshooting this problem soon. You may have two separate problems.

Yeah, this is almost always a misfire problem of some sort...(coil packs, oil in the combustion chamber, fouled plugs...etc.)
