Dash/door panel trim?

Does anyone know anything about where I can get some aluminum (or the look of) to replace the wood trim in my car? I've checked a few websites and its a bit expensive. Would it be easier to just take my trim off and paint them? I figured that might be the best bet..........just scuff up the trim, prime it and paint it? Has anyone done this or known anyone to do this? Its something I feel comfortable doing but would like to maybe have a little support before I do it. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

does anyone know of any pictures of an 2000 LS with an aluminum trim kit on it? $300 dollars is A LOT of money to spend on trim. So.....i'm still thinking of doing it myself with some interior spray (if i can find the right color). You know, Grayghost, it would be pretty cool if you offered something like that.....my brother over at Iowa State said if I sent him the pieces, he could make carbon fiber molds out of them (he is an engineer over there). What do you all think?

The kits come with the items in the diagram below:

To cover the door pieces and other items you would have to find material that matched the brushed aluminum or whatever color you choose and cover it. I have a How To that I'll post that shows how to take the door trim pieces off. This is what I did to cover my existing wood pieces in my car.

Here's how to remove the existing wood pieces off of the door panels. This how to is only for the 2000-2002 LS's. I don't know how the pieces are attached to the 2003 and up LS's.

Actually taking the existing wud pieces off wasn't that bad. On each door panel the wud strip is held on by 13mm nuts AND there is three plastic studs that are melted onto the door panel. The three plastic studs are easy to Dremel off and really don't add any support to the wood pieces once it's re-intalled. Here's a picture of the back side of the driver side door.

Once you have removed all of the nuts and plastic studs you will have to remove the Memory Seat Switch and the Door Lock Switch to get the complete unit out.

Here's what it should look like once you have taken out the existing wud unit:

To cover the power window piece it's easier to remove the power window unit.

You will only have to remove the Door Lock Switch on the Passenger side. Here is a picture of the inside of the Rear Driver side panel. Note that there is not any washers to take out only the 13mm nuts and the plastic studs. There isn't a lock switch mechanism to take out. It's on the arm rest.

Here's what the existing wud piece looks like once off of the door panel:

Also, remove the power window unit to cover the piece.

According to manufacturer of the kits above it would be too difficult to mold those pieces. My recommendation is to find some brushed aluminum vinyl and cover it yourself. It's not a difficult job it just takes time.
