“Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris. He was more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil’s every move. We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil’s sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew.”

I am deeply saddened by this, I wish all the best to the family.

this sucks, after he survived having a clot pass through his heart and lived i thought he would have lived forever. but he was in bad physical shape, the amount he smoked and his very poor fisherman's diet i guess it was only a matter of time. that really sucks, Phil was a true fisherman and a devoted dad.his sons have HUGE shoes to fill, if they chose to, i hope they continue their dads legacy. rest in peace phil.

Big loss to his sons and to all of us who enjoyed watching him.
I was worried this was going to happen because he did not change much. I know about this as I had my heart attack in June but it took me until last month to quit smoking.

RIP Phil you will be missed.
