WELL ANOTHER :q:q:q:qTY DEALER STORY,,

Took car in for diagnostic; results
new trani
coil #2
plug #2
L/R valve cover gaskets
front sway bar
LH/RH knuckles

Diognostic testing at $79/per hr told me wont go over an hour without calling me first.

Get there and says umm we went over the hour and need to pay for 2 hrs,, I laughed and said hell no,, told me u would call after first hour,, than he says,, "ummm can u pay a lil more"?,,,, I said, ummm no, here:s 79$..lol

Had car for 14mnths,,, desk guy calls me and says, ok we'r done and ur trani dont work,,lol I said I know this thats why i came in here,,lol

So i talk to the tech who did work,, and tells me whats up than says,, just buy a new car this is all :q:q:q:qed up.. ahhh the beauty of good customer service.

Dealer told me I need a new right side CAT CONVERTER do to it not working,, something bout the fluid thats in it, being bad causeing a loss of power.

Quated me $449.17 part $118.00 labor

Asked him if gettin a new exhaust ex: Magnaflow,, would by pass the need to fix the converter and he said no.

Is that true,, and where can I get a cheaper CAT CONVERTER?

Thanks.

how many miles on car? remember cat warranty is 80K miles IIRC. the aftermarket exhaust systems are cat back meaning you still need your factory cats.

WOW! 14 months to tell you the trany don't work (or was it they couldn't get it to work?) tell you the truth I think all the ASE training stuff is BULL:q :q :q :q. These kids comming out of tech school with ASE cert. are comming out of a sponsered care maker class that really shows them how to replace stuff instead of FIXING it and all the learn are the basics of how an engine and rest work. I have yet to see any ASE cert class that has the class build and engine or tranny from the bottom up. That is why they are called Technisions and not machanics

OH and BTW check you warranty and see what it says before you do anything because you might be able to get everything done for nothing.

Well either way i still don't trust the dealerships. What i would do is get it look at by a Transmition specialist (Tranny shop) to see what the real deal is. Could be something simple that a seasoned tranny guy could fix in no time or just get it rebuilt so that at least you have some kind of warranty and for GOD SAKES don't take it to AAMACO

Yea I went to dealer to do a diagnostic chek,, figure what dealer says is worse case,,, than take it to local mechanic,, and I have car in a tranny rebuild shop.

Just thought it was funny how grimmy they are, some cases they are worse than a used car salesman, and thats pretty damn bad

Oh yea and the worse part is when tech was checkin car, guess he was touchin the comp buttonson the vents and pushed it in broke it,,lol these f**** addded it to my estimate sheet,,45$ part 89$ labor,,, now thats balls

I told him,, but u broke it on ur own,, why u think im paying for it.

Still waitin on return call from manager.

Figure i can fix it easy,, but be nice to get my money back for the oil change and diagnostic.

That's a bit high; Team Ford lists the RH cat for the '00 V8 at just over $371 (which isn't bad--the cats for my '04 V8 are listed at almost $1300 or $905, depending on build date). AFAIK, Lincoln is the only source for cats for the LS (well, there's Jaguar, but you probably don't want to know what they'd charge).

And no, a Magnaflow system won't help you--their exhaust for the LS is a "cat-back" system, so it relies on the factory cats. I'm not positive about the other aftermarket systems, but they're normally cat-backs as well (I'm guessing that's because it keeps them from running afoul of CARB and Federal exhaust regulations).

I would ask a local muffler shop about the cat, preferably the one used by the local racers and street rod guys. They'll probably do a better job for less money, if it even needs to be done...
