Ohio Judge to Face Drunk Driving Charge

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A state Supreme Court justice pulled over for drunk driving urged a police officer not to arrest her and cited her rulings in drunken driving cases, according to police videotapes.

Justice Alice Robie Resnick, 65, of Toledo, is scheduled to appear court Monday, one week after police pulled her over on Interstate 75 in northern Ohio. Her attorney, Sheldon Wittenberg, filed a request last week indicating she wants to change her innocent plea, but he did not say what the new plea would be.

In the video, shot by a camera on the dashboard of the patrol car and released Friday, a police sergeant questioning Resnick in the front seat tells her he can smell alcohol on her breath.

Resnick assures the officer that she can drive safely, but he asks her to take a portable breath-analysis test. She then lowers her voice and says, "I did have something to drink."

Resnick also repeatedly asks to be let go, saying, "My God, you know I decide all these cases in your favor. And my golly, look what you're doing to me."

Resnick's blood-alcohol content registered 0.22 percent, more than twice the legal limit in Ohio of 0.08 percent. However, the portable test cannot be used as evidence in court.

She refused to take an official Breathalyzer test, which means an automatic one-year license suspension and a three-year ban from driving state vehicles.

Resnick could also receive as much as six months in jail and a fine up to $1,000 if she is convicted. Resnick later apologized in a statement. A justice since 1989, she is the court's only Democrat.

She's probably still drowning her sorrows from the November election.

There is no excuse for drunk driving. She should do the time. Republican or Democrat, as a judge, she should be made an example of.

It really only caught my attention because our illustrious attorney general in Wisconsin was busted for DUI after she drove her (government owned) car into a ditch. The sobriety test was caught on tape and then she turns around and at first pleads not-guilty and tries to pull strings before the public outcry drowned her out. She was also a democrat. The connection here is a mindset on the part of liberals that they do not have to live by the same laws as the rest of us. I see it time and time again. Conservatives are always held to a higher standard.

I can cite you examples from across the United States where Republicans and conservatives are held to higher standards.

Heck, just look at the Senate race in Illinios where Jack Ryan, the Republican, was forced out the race because the liberals allowed his divorce records to be opened revealing that the guy took his wife to a strip club ONCE. We asked to have Kerry's divorce records opened up and and the same people said no way. So you tell me there is not a double-standard. It persists everywhere.

Or how about Bob Bennett's gambling in Vegas? The guy's own private money and he was skewered.

If there wasn't dirt it wouldn't be dug up. You have advanced conservative paranoia.
