Have had my mark viii only 4 months or so. Runs absolutely fantastic, but I figured what the hell, may as well replace some stuff.

So I pulled the spark plugs (107k miles)....haha...original motorcraft plugs, never been changed....then I pulled the filter, haha...original ford fuel filter. man that thing was dirty!!! Let the fuel drain out disconnected, and at the bottom end, it came out looking BROWN...on the engine side, it barely dribbled out. Then I pulled the air silencer.

I suspected the car may have been on all original parts, as my average fuel mileage is 12-15 mpg's, including freeway.....so this was to try and get some mpg's back.

What I did get is a solid noticeable kick in the ass....this thing is rock solid smooth, and it literally pushes me back in the seat....I didn't gain 50 hp of course, but what I did gain was a noticeable improvement....

Let's see how my mileage goes..if I average even 1 or 2 more, I'll be happy. If not, whatever doesn't matter anyhow, I'll be driving v8's even when gas is $20 a gallon.

These engines like good condition, quality parts.

Keep em‘ in tune, and they'll repay the kindness.

107K ... long way to go on that engine. My first Mark VIII I purchased with 159K took it to 230K, 2nd Mark VIII purchased with 128K and now has 190K and still rolling .. well temporary delay. 3rd Mark VIII purchased with 118K, you'll have to ask Pepperman how many miles on it ... My 4th Mark VIII purchased with 81K an nice 93 now with 94K on it.

:)
Did you replace the COP boots?

didn't bother...it's not missing before or after, so they're ok.

There is a lot of oil in a few of the spark plug holes though, so it's time for a valve cover gasket job soon...

Doubt they were factory parts. You can buy Motorcraft plugs and filters.

While its possible the plugs could go to 100K the electrodes would be worn down to almost nothing and the measured gap would be significantly larger then recommended.
As for the fuel filter, while they do get quite nasty I have yet to see one make it to 100+K and the motor is still running at all.

You lie! The 93s fuel filter was the original when I changed it, it was SO nasty that you could not blow thru it (how the fuel pump managed it, I have no idea) perhaps that's why it failed not long after swapping the filter.

Keep in mind also that your MPG reading on the screen is an average, you'll need to reset it to get a new reading

that's what I was thinking at first, but all signs point to originality

-the spark plugs had the type of dirt and aging on them that only comes from years of being installed into a car
'
-the mark viii's from the factory were rated at 100k first tune up intervals, so being that I have 107k, it's about due for it's first tune up

-most people change filters, and plugs and other tune up stuff at the same time, and the fuel filter was oxidized the exact same amount as that bracket was that holds it that bolts to the car, meaning the age of the two were exactly the same...the aluminum bracket and alum filter looked like one piece cause they were exactly the same aging pattern.

NOTHING on the car has been replaced except the air struts...all ball joints, bushings, everything appears all original.

I've seen a lot of 100K+ spark plugs in our Ford truck fleet over the years that looked very good for their age.

The Double Platninum plugs will go 100,000 miles. The 100,000 mile tune up calls for new boots on the COPs regardless if it is missing! The springs in the boots get fatigued.

+2 the original service interval for the double plats is 100k, the way to tell if they are original is they will have a paint dot on the top of the plug from the factory, if not then they have been replaced
