Hello everyone, New guy on the block...

I am looking into buying an 88LSC for $1100 and I have a few questions about some parts.

1.The seats are all torn up..I can live with that, but these are the "sport"seats with bolsters and I would like to eventually replace them.

2.Owner states that the Driver rear 'bag leaks and has disconected the compressor to prevent burnout. I have scanned the threads, so this repair does not bother me too bad.
3.owner also disconnected the speakers? I saw a reference to a factory amp in the threads and wondered about that.

The car runs great and I can take care of the mechanical parts.

My other question is....
How much pressure does the compressor put out on these cars? I used to work for a Trucking company and I was able to get a full size air horn off a wrecked truck... would it be possible (if the compressor is strong enough) to mount an extra compressor and plumb it to an air tank?

If I buy this car, I'll have to sell my Caddy. It is in need of head gaskets and I don't have the equipment to do a Timecert repair.

Thanks

Well, you didn't really ask but one question there, so I am unsure what you want to know about the first three points.

1. If you want to have the seats recovered just talk to an upholsterer.

2. You most likely have a leaking rear air spring.

3. There is a stock amp for the stereo mounted in the trunk, hung on the deck lid.

The air compressor must put out at least ~80psi to lift the rear and ~125psi to lift the front. If you want to go adding an extra compressor and air tank you might as well just go with that system and ditch the stock setup. Unless you plan to fast bag the system I see know reason to go through all of that work; the stock system did it's job for at least 15 years.

Quick Question - Boaz where? There is a Boaz Wisconsin about a few miles from me.

Also which Mark VII are you looking at, as there is one for sale down the street from me. Just curious if this is the same car?

I live in Boscobel.

A good source for used parts. www.car-parts.com

I guess I really didn't ask but one that was parts related...

The extra Compressor I was wanting to use for the air horn... It's tacky I know but its just so Damn loud and has the possibility for great fun...I know a Mechanic with a Service truck who has mounted a set of train air horns...always fun when in traffic at a RR crossing! The tank was just for either storage for the horn or I can plumb it with an air line for the tires.

Concerning the seats... What would the estimate be on recovering seeing as they are leather?

And I'm in Boaz, AL.

That is really only a question that an upholstery shop can answer. One_Way got his front seats recovered for ~$600 I think, but I know when I looked into it I was quoted closer to $1000 just for the front seats. It really just depends on the shop.

A neighbor charged me $650 for my front seats and headrest. When he returned them to me, he kept telling me how these seats were the most difficult ones he'd ever seen to disassemble and correctly reassemble.

Best $650 I've ever spent. :)

I wish I had the parts and tools to do the recover myself.
I build seats for the Honda minivan as my job, so I have an idea of how to do it.
BTW Josh, How much did it cost to shave the handles, and what do you use for a door popper?

Buy my car and I'll show you first hand. ;)

I did most of the work to shave the car, then had my painter do the serious body work. The doors are remotely opened with hevy duty solenoids.

Josh, do you have any info on the solenoids used, pictures perhaps? I am thinking about doing the same.

I can give you a mental picture...it's a big solenoid. :p It's a lot of wiring, so you would need a lot of information that is more than can easily be provided in one post. If you have specific questions I can definitely field them. Or you could just buy my car.
