Do you call Obama "the Messiah?" Why?

This is actually a serious question. It's always struck me as strange -- especially when it's capitalized.

Has this been discussed before here? (I searched the forum but there were pages and pages of hits.)

Did it start with the Farrakhan thing, or is there other stuff that I missed?

It's not a single, isolated incident. It's collective. It's has to do with the religious hope and faith his supporters have in him. People are already coming to his townhall meetings for houses and jobs, it's only a matter of time before they start asking him to heal lepers.

But it's not based on the Farrakhan reference.
