Does anyone know what this Engine module does? ECM IGN 21313

97 98 LINCOLN MARK VIII ENGINE ECM IGNITION CONT 21313

I can't find any info anywhere about this and it's location

I have spent months trying to get this Mark running perfect but just found out about this unit and it maybe what I need.

There is TONS of info. Thats the electronic distributor, so to speak. EDIS - Electronic Distributorless Ignition System as Ford calls it. It talks to the computer (PCM a.k.a EEC) and some other items and triggers the coil packs to fire.

But for 97/98, I am pretty sure the PCM manages spark directly. I think that is true for 96 and up with OBD-II. I know when I converted my 96 to COP there was not EDIS module like that.
 
Thanks for the knowledge, but where did you find info on this, I've been to Chiltons and more and never found info?
 
96-98 do not have an EDIS8 module.
the PCM handles it.

OBD2 upped the wire count and processing power and an external module was no longer needed.
