My boss is thinking of buying a 6 banger LS. He is conserned that it requires premium fuel. Any of you guys run your on regular or plus?

I am a mark 8 owner and find this board helpful so I offered to post this for him.

Regards,
BILL

i use premium in my ls v6. The way it was explained to me is that your engine was built for high octane, it wont fall apart or blow up if you dont, but your engine performance will be much better if you do and you will get better gas mileage as well. Not sure if its actually bad to run lower octane.

use premium!!!!

yes!!!!!!!!! use premium fuel only!!!!!! when i got my ls i thought i could get away with just using regular, but for 2 weeks the engine was making a clanking noise that was very annoying, so i switched to premium like the manual and gas lid door say and my baby has been hummin like a bird since... :give

I thought Lincolns have anti-knock sensors.

Besides, isn't the 24V, 3.0L Duratec V6 in the Lincoln the same one as in the Ford 500 (but slightly uprated)? I don't see why one would need premium and the other regular.

the reason is because of the programing or tune of your computer that is in the car. Oh and no your car will NOT fall apart if you don't use it your car just runs like crap!

It may not fall apart...but SERIOUS engine damage can occur!! VERY SERIOUS! Detonation destroys pistons in a hurry if you're not careful. It's also hard on rods and bearings as the pre-ignition hits those hard at a time they're not designed to. It can eat ring lands and literally lift them off the piston. The ECM is designed to pull timing out when it detects detonation, but it can only go so far...so it may still detonate. As a matter of fact, the timing is not as critical to curing detonation as people think. The fuel is a much more important factor then timing. As a result, the 03 and 04 Cobras with supercharged engines don't even have knock sensors!! The ECM couldn't save the engine...so they didn't put them on there. They depend on proper fuel and tuning for detonation prevention.
