Does the LS V8 do a faster 1/4 in D or by using the "manumatic" function??

I was just wondering if anyone did any testing on weather the LS8 is faster from a stop with the shifter in Drive or by shifting your own gears. My 02 sport will allow me to cross the redline when shifting manually and even catch rubber in the 1-2 shift. I have no good way of calculating which is better. I realize that taking the engine past redline and chipring the tires is not going to help a 1/4 time.

I've got the XCal II which dramatically stiffens your shift points in D4 and D5 but I still think using the "manumatic" helps you get down the line faster. For some reason my car - even with the XCal II running on max tune - still shifts at about 5700 rpms between 1-2 gears. For that reason I use the manumatic function.

When I took mine to the strip I felt the car was faster in D4 but my timeslips showed it was faster by shifting the gears.

Here's a post I had and got some good info out of it. I need to go back to the track because I was shifting at redline. I have been playing a little and now shift at about 5500. Seems to get into the next gear faster.
It was just how mine seemed to like to be shifted, your 03 may be a little different. Waiting to long to shift is definately bad.

Also, when going to the track if its your first time you may want to leave it in auto till you get use to everything. Manual shift when your confortable.

On an '02, it will depend on how you launch, since you have to be over 60% WOT for the SST to start in 1st ('03-'06 LSes can start in 1st in SST mode at will). And the PCM won't let you exceed the redline--if you hit the rev limiter, it'll kill your time, because the PCM will kill the engine's power to protect the drivetrain. I don't recall if it does this via cutting fuel flow, retarding timing, or a combination of the two, but it's very noticeable when it happens. ;)

Personally, to my finely-calibrated butt-dyno, it feels like my '04 hooks up best when starting in SST 1st with AdvanceTrac off, but I've not done any empirical studies to see if that's actually the case.

In my 02 I can gun the throttle and get 1st and I can stop again and keep it. That is the only way to launch in first without the shift that I know of. I usually shift a tad before redline. I can also carry about 300RPM past redline before the limiter kicks in and if I leave advancetrak on and get tire spin in the 1-2 shift it kills the aceleration too.

my 02 can start in 1st gear when ever i want.... all i got to do is put it in 1st gear because i dont got the SST, so all i do is go 1st to 6200, 2nd to 6500 (makes shift to 3rd harder) and i finish 1/4 mile at the end of 3rd.. 93 mph usualy

my 01 if i forget to shift it (happened once forgot it was in sst) it will automatically shift it for you if it stays in redline for a couple of seconds

yeah, I was being an idiot once when I got the car. dont know why but I was on the highway with the stereo up shifted over to SST for no good reason lol.... Got off on the on ramp, it'll shift all the way down to 2 when you stop even when you shift to SST in 5.... AAAnyways, I get on the road, jammin out, cruisin in traffic, havent felt the car shift in a while look down I'm at like 7K on the tach for god knows how long lol. It was slow traffic. Drove a few miles in 2 the whole time.
