Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing a LS, and I really want the premium sound. The dealer says this car has it, however my research says otherwise. If you look at the attached picture the speaker that should be on the lower part of the center console is not there. Does this mean is does not have premium sound? Or does the DVD navigation system change the placement of that speaker?

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

if its missing the speakers inthe center I am assuming no

i would have to assume and agree with lloyd.. but u may be right about the navy taking the place of the center speakers.. but to my knowledge.. the premium package comes with the speakers where u circles

Yeah it definitly has the premium package, as it has the wood trim and the chrome wheels. I just don't understand why it does not have those speakers. I am going to look at it this weeked. Its a steal, 2004, $20,900, 36k miles, and a DVD Nav system. I am not sure why its so cheap. From all the pictures it looks like its in good shape, Carfax says its never been in an accident. I can't wait to drive it.

It prolly has the THX system which I am pretty sure is top of the line for factory. I know mine sounds great.

From the picture, that LS has the THX sound system which is the best one offered in the LS.

In general, the LS has three sound systems available. The basic system is an AM/FM stereo/cassette/single-CD player and 4 speakers (one in each door). The next best system is the "Audiophile" system which includes a bigger amplifier and 12 speakers, including two on the transmission tunnel near your knees. The top of the line system is the THX system which has an even bigger amp, better speakers, and two subwoofers.

Oddly, the THX system has a total of 10 speakers, but the mid-level Audiophile system has 12. The two missing speakers in the THX system relative to the Audiophile system are the two on the transmission tunnel. As legend has it, when the THX system was tuned, the THX engineers removed the two speakers on the transmission tunnel since they did not do anything for sound quality.

thats a lot of miles.. i got my 02 1.25 years ago and it had 24K miles.. maybe it has the extra speakers on the rear deck lid? who knows.. it prolly sounds great..

Todd, thanks for the explanation!

Yeah for 21k its definitly a steal. I am worried that its got issues, its just way too cheap, but so far everthing looks ok (carfax). It also could just be that the dealer does not know what they have.

Anyway thanks everyone for the help. I will let you guys know what happens when I look at it.

Jonathan

Yea that is a good price for read. I got my 01 V6 sport for 21,000 back in 2003, it had 35000 miles and I though I got a decent deal on it.

If you have any worries see if you can get the FORD extended warranty, not some off brand but the actual ford one. Also I would get the one that covers the electronics since that car seems to have a bunch.

He's right the THX engners relized people dont have ears in the knees so they pulled them. Though I am planing on useing them as a center channel when I get a system installed.

Cool link by the way

That does sound like a great price, but it might be too good to be true. If you look under the hood, check for turned bolts, overspray of paint and weld marks. Also feel the edges of the hood and fenders- if it feels sandpapery, than its been painted. Usualy cars that are that nice for that cheap might have accdent history, and if an accdent was never reported to police or insurance, it wont show up on carfax.

HEY! That's my interior! just kidding, looks identical to mine though.definitely go through the car with a fine toothed comb TWICE if you are really serious about buying it.Collision damage can sometimes be not-so-easy-to-spot as there are as many top-notch shops as there are "hack" shops who do shoddy repairs. Also be aware of a practice called "title washing";some people do this to make a quick buck and basically SCREW whoever buys their vehicle.

Here's how it works:A car with a salvage or R (reconstructed vehicle) title is bought in one state either from private owner or most likely an auction. The said vehicle is then registered in another state and gets a "clean" title. This only works in certain states that have loopholes in their motor vehicle and registration laws.I forgot to mention flood cars which can be deceiving when looking for body damage. Most insurance companies will total a car once the carpet gets saturated. So don't forget to check under the dash and in the trunk for surface rust, green oxidation on any exposed wiring(copper) and silt or other dirt.I hope this can help you out and good luck buying your car!

I would also have an OASIS report run.

That is one damn nice car if it checks out. Nicely loaded. I would jump all over that one if I were you!!!

i have the THX navi and my friend has the new Q45 with the BOSS system and the sound of the THX is wayy better than the BOSS so the quality is verry good some car magazines are calling it the best factory audio system in terms of sound quality.

that price isn't too out of line. a year ago I paid 20 for my 03 with all those same options. 40 something k on it.

Lol, I didn't ask the weight of the previous owner! The seat seems fine when I am in it, maybe its just the lighting.

I got them down to 19,980. They wouldn't budge after that. I am pleased with the price, I have been watching LS's go for 25k+ in my area with the similar miles and options.

An OASIS report is s a service history on the car, but only for work that was done at a Ford (or Lincoln or other Ford brand) service center. Any time work is done on a Ford vehicle by a Ford shop, it's reported in Ford's OASIS system, so the car's service history can be pulled at another Ford shop when you take it there for service. It includes warranty work, so you can see if the car has unresolved issues, and recall service records.
