DOHC Head porting

I would like to inquire who you all would recommend for Porting/polishing 98 DOHC heads?

I would recommend porting and polishing ANY stock heads just because the better they flow the more horsepower you can make! The problem is trying to find someone to do it. I can find people to work on heads from a pushrod motor but not too many want to mess with the DOHC heads.

nice site but I don't trust anyone unless they have references. This kind of job can be very tricky which is part of the reason why most people won't mess with the DOHC heads. I'm not quite sure why, maybe because they are so used to pushrod engines and just aren't familiar with them.

have you ever heard anyone get anything done by them? I've heard mixed reviews but not enough to make a decision.

Like most "high dollar" mods... a lot of talk and very little action. Yeah, I think I recall a couple but I'd be lying if I said whom.

I'll admit it's one of those things on my list, but I don't really talk about it much 'til the time comes. But as the addage goes, I've heard they're the best. The thing is IMHO, you're talking over $3K(plus labor) and that knocks a lot of people out of the game, so there are not a lot of vendors to choose from.

Good luck frogman - please keep us advised!

You should as to take pics of the engine build from time to time and post them!

Extrude Hone

Well sir, the time has come for me.

Yesterday, I bought a complete Eagle low compression 298 stroker forged rotating assembly. If all goes well, the new motor will be done in 60 days time.
Extrude Hone is a very well known and very respected company. They pump an abrasive / puddy mixture through your part at high pressures. The parts com back with a mirror like finish, and the flow rates go up accordingly. I used to have heads ported at the race shop, and then sent to extrude hone for a final polish. Thay almost always came back from extrude hone wit a 15 to 20% flow improvement. Never had DOHC heads done, but the same principals still apply.

yeah, umm, extrude hone has got to be one of if not the biggest/best in this line of work,i would guess you could probably call up a lot of nascar shops,or pro drag car teams and get references from them,:D
i dont know how long they have been around ,but i have known of them for 15+ years.

i am sure there are plenty of other places to go too,

godd luck.

Having represented the company in the past I can tell you they can provide a product that is perfect in every way. But you have to have tooling (plugs for the ports) to get maximum effectiveness of the abrasive effect on the port wall. If you go to their web and cross reference some of their dealers who have their machines you will note that there is also involved some had work to do port matching. The "Silly Putty" has to be directed and forced to do the work in the required location and direction, thus the need for the restriction plugs. Like all things in life this is not a cure all, but another inhancement for improved surface finish.
