GREENSBURG, Ind. - A man who went to the sheriff's department to bond out his brother-in-law also ended up in jail when police realized the money he handed them reeked of marijuana.

Timothy Richards, 45, of Columbus, went to the Decatur County Sheriff's Department and when he handed dispatcher Julie Meyers $400, she counted it and then noticed something unusual.

"When I walked back toward the jail I noticed the money was damp and smelled funny," Meyers said.

A jailer who sniffed the money told her it smelled like marijuana, she said.

Indiana State Trooper Chip Ayers was nearby and asked for the money, she said. He smelled it and then asked Richards for consent to search him and his car, Meyers said.

Ayers found a pipe and a small amount of marijuana and charged Richards with possession. If convicted, he could face six months to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Richards remained in jail for several hours Tuesday — until his brother-in-law made bail and came back to pay his own $250 bond.

WOW, just WOW. It amazes me how stupid people can be sometimes

Back many moons ago in a more Innocent (Naive)time, after a night of fun with some friends I was awoken by the ringing phone. It was one of my buddies that I had been out with. He was calling from jail asking for a ride home as he was picked up on a DWI.

I said I'll come and get you. Now I wasn't thinking at the time. Until I walked into the office then I thought I wonder if they are going to ask me if I was drinking, and they did.

My next thought was if I say know will they ask me to take a test, followed by the thought if I say no and then have to take a test and test positive what would be worse.

Now I had left a little earlier than my buddies as I was hungry and wanted to get something to eat. I also had time to sit for a while before I went to sleep and it had been at least 3 to 4 hours from when I had stopped drinking to when I got to the Jail to pick up my friend.

So I said yes I had be drinking. They gave me a test and I tested ok..

Now the next dumb thing I did was I took my buddy to his car that was left on the side of the road so he could pick it up and he drives it home.

Anyway, I survived the ordeal LOL.
