A low flying formation from Luke AFB irritated someone who ended up writing the base to complain.

Below is the complaint followed by the response from the squadron commander.

THE COMPLAINT

Subject: A wake-up call from Luke's jets

Jun. 23, 2005 12:00 AM

"Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base: Whom do we thank for! the morning air show?

Last Wednesday (June 15), at precisely 9:11 a.m., a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune!

Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns' early-bird special?

Any response would be appreciated."

THE REPLY

Regarding "A wake-up call from Luke's jets": On June 15, at precisely 9:11 a.m., a perfectly timed four-ship of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over it! he grave of Capt Jeremy Fresques.

Capt. Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.

At 9 a.m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend.

Based on the letter writer's recount of the flyby, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the President of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured.

A four-ship flyby is a display of respect the Air Force pays to those who give their lives in defe! nse of freedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, "Whom do we thank for the morning air show?"

The 56th Fighter Wing will call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.

Lt. Col. Scott Pleus
CO 63rd Fighter Squadron
Luke Air Force Base

Luke has been around for over 50 years. At that time the surrounding area was desert and farmland. The base came before the suburbs and this should come as no surprise to anyone living on that side of town. Well, I guess with exception to this clown. So in an effort to help my fellow Arizonan, let me explain a few things. If you live by a school you will have a lot of kids walking in front of your house and you you will hear bells ringing Mon-Fri from 8am to 3 pm. If you walk in the rain without an umbrella, you will get wet. If you ever get you head out of your butt you would understand that we are at war and by living near an airforce base, you will hear airplanes, probably more than when we were at peace, you dumb shi*. Daaa.

As a side note. Luke AFB was named after WWI Ace Frank Luke, a local Az cowboy. If you ever get the chance to read about him and his short tour of duty in France, you will be amazed. This guy was a fearless warrior as was Capt. Fresques. Both pilots gave the ulitmate sacrafice for their country including ungrateful jerks that complain about low flying jets. So many of our verterans and MIA'a are forgotten. At my kids middleschool, Pearl Harbor day went by unnoticed. Support our vertrans and never forget them and the extrordinary sacrafices they gave and continue to give to each and everyone of us.

i think its funny that someone actually is so ignorant of military prosedures that she thinks the pilots could actually have just been "tom crusin' it up" over there. theres big trouble for breaking regulations.

stack i wish it was the person that wrote the letter on the reciving end of the fly over. instead of a good person that was following orders. jd

Then he shouldn't freaking be complaining being that he is a VET!!! HE should know!

How would he know Air Force protocal? He is retire Navy, which gives him no knowledge of the Air Force. I'm in no way condoning his complaint, but that doesn't give us the right to belittle him for being home on a weekday after retirement.

That guy needs to get a life, I like seeing military jets flying in an Honor formation!!!!

I live across the river from a naval air station. There are planes constantly flying over, and I don't mind them at all. I think its pretty cool to watch the jets fly by in formation, especially the blue angels when they're in town.

Its not Air Force Protocal for one... Two if you live next to a FLIGHT LINE you can expect FLIGHTS!!!! PLANES!!!! S H I T Like that !!!! Come on now, if you used to be in the military and you didn't realize that much, and you complained... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Man!?!?!

And I wasn't belittling him for being home on a week day. I wish I WAS him. But for him to complain in that snooty, smart ass way.... I would have showed up to his house with a few pilots and gave him a respectful whats for!

Any whos....
