Long story short, my interior door handle hasn't been working for a while. So I took the door apart yesterday, and discovered that the cable that attaches the handle to the latch has snapped off, at the handle. Now, my questions are:

1 - Do I have to replace the handle and the cable? Or can I draw the cable out of the current sleeve and reattach it?

2 - how do I get the bolts off holding the handle in?

Here are some pics:

you are just not having a good day! :( I'm not sure about the cable but it appear that the handle is held in by rivets which means you'll have to drill them out and either install new ones when you put it back in or put in a bolt and nut. I used to have some rivets where it had a pin in the middle and you had to hammer the pin in to secure it. I'm not sure if they sell those in hardware stores or not.

I have had to replace handles on other vehicles. With factory rivets best way is to drill them out and install the replacement with bolts with a lock washer or lock nut. As far as the cable, I am not too sure on the marks but I would assume that it needs the whole cable/handle to be replaced. Best bet is to go the the stealership and have them pull the interior handle for you to look at, check the replacement part if it has a cable attached. If it does then there is your answer, if it doesn't then you know you will know that there is a way to take it out and you can just change the cable. Good luck

Your actually better off re-riveting the assy back on.

let me know if you need the cable, I have a couple of extras sitting around somewhere.

thanks for the help guys - I will contact Max tomorrow at five star and see if he knows if the cable comes with the handle or not.

I don't own a riveter :( so it's looks like it's screw time for me.

I'm about 90% sure the cable and the handle come together as an assembly.

*edit*

Nope, I was wrong. The cable is sold seperately.
