I think it is a very common issue, as every Gen II Mark VIII I looked at in 2005 and again in 2012...had at least one broken/detached door switch for window or locks.

I was happy to see that all the switches in mine were intact, and seemly in good shape.

Fast forward having a 16 year old daughter and a wife ride in the passenger side (same reason the outside door handle finally failed, but it is a bad design).

The lock/unlock button came apart.

So how is all supposed to go together? I can only guess the chrome part sits over the switch, and the cap is supposed to have plastic pins that attach it to the switch?

How is the best way to fix this? Just glue to top to the chrome piece and not attach it to the switch, just let it sit in place?

The little white pegs that are broken off in the switch were once attached to the lock/unlock cover. Before you you anything figure out which way the cover fits on the bezel so that the L/U are facing the right directions, the bezel also sits on top of the switch a certain way so be aware of that. What I did was carefully taped off the outside chrome bezel and lay very careful dots of super glue at the corners and sides and let the cover cure on it. At that point I put a very small dab of sg on top of each broken white tab to secure it. The last thing you want is to put too much on them and having the sg run down into it. That's how I recall doing it, it's been about 5 years since I've had to mess with them.

That is what I figured, it wasn't obvious looking at the actual switch or cover, but once I looked at the pictures I took it seemed obvious. I couldn't see the place where the posts would be, of the fact that it looks like they remained in the switch.
