Since I don't have a repair manual and I've never had to fix one of these before... where the heck is the location of the chime and/or the fuse to control the chime?

I've come to realize that the one in my car doesn't work, but I don't trust my skills quite enough to go hunting without advice.

what exaclty is wrong with the chime?? going off all the time??? other problems??? it might be easier (and cheaper) in the long run to fix possible causes of the chime if its going off like crazy. if its chiming because of a false alarm (like low oil just to mention one), if its disabled, then if you have a real failure, your not as likely to notice the gauge drop to 0.

The chime isn't going off at all.

I suspect its either a blown fuse or the unit itself is busted. This is incovenient as I have a bad habit of leaving my lights on when I get out of the car.

looking at a 92 manual... there is no less than 5 fuses in that circuit!

all of the circuits monitored by it (key-in, doors, headlamp, and i/p beeps) have there own fuses!

if its just the lights, fuse 4...

there is a solid stat module (warning chime module) that is in located 'lower center of I/P'.. looks pretty big in pic, 9 wires....
the actual tone generator (beeper) is in the cluster itself

more info as to what exactly don't work, can get more detailed on the suspected culprit(s)

Location of chime

Crawl under the dash on driver's side, remove the kick plate and you will see a black box the size of a cigarette pack. This is the chime. It is a bear to separate from the wiring. You may need a small screw driver to pry it off the prongs.

My chime was going off every 15 minutes while driving. This car is the worst engineered car on the road, sad to say. How did it get out of the factory?

that isn't the chime according to my service manual (it is a 92 manual tho).

it could be a chime module, (there are at least 2 on my 91, one in the I/P for most warnings and a different sounding one for the SRS airbag warning if light is bad). The module located in the lower center is a controller for the 'primary' chime. the actual chime is in the digital instrument cluster. if you disconnect the controller, sure chime stops, but does so for ALL the monitored systems.

but why disconnect a warning device instead of fixing the cause of the warning????
