Drivers Side Grab Handle

2001 V8 Sport. Anyone have a procedure for removing the grab handle above the drivers side door? I keep banging my head on it.

hmm i dont have one on that side -- i guess the designers realized that you really dont need one on the drivers side when the updated the 03+

That was a deletion in the '03 update. I would like to have one, actually.

I guess also referred to as the "OH SH!T" handle. My thinking is the drivers side doesnt have one because theoretically your supposed to have both hands on the wheel. I can see maybe once, twice. But how to you keep hitting your head on it? Thats very odd.

lol HyeLifeLS you telling me he is a cone head... NAAA i cant beleave that but really how that keeps happening unless the handle stays down all the time then i can see it happening but if it works like it should you should not be hitting it.

the handles do stay all the way down.

I would imagine there is screws underneath the two ends. Try maybe prying the ends open, too see if you can expose them?

But how to you keep hitting your head on it? Thats very odd.

I have a tall torso, but short legs so my seat is in a forward position. However, even with the seat all the way down, the top of my head still brushes the head liner. If I tilt my head to the left it hits the grab handle. The handle is not one of the type that folds up on a swivel. It sticks out all the time. I want to remove it, but don't want to destroy the headliner. Just wanted to see if anyone else has removed it and how they did it.

hmm i think you might be right LOL -- well all jokes asside i dont have a gen1 LS send i pic of it maybe we can figure it out also if you ever go to the dealership ask one of the techs to tell you how he would do it and go and do it -- if it dont look good you can alsways put it back.

the end pieces on the handle pop off. just pry them off with a screw driver. u want to pry the edge off so dont stik it in there 2 far. when the ends pop off u'll b able 2 c the screws...loosen those up and the thing will come off. i had 2 do this 2 change my dome lites...which r now blue. it was a pain in the ass 2 remove most of the top but worth it...
