so my buddy got me into looking at classic muscle cars as I would enjoy having one if I ever thought of replacing my LS (cause I hate the high maintenance of eletronics in cars nowadays) so I looked around and found this ol' good conditiom (original owner) 1969 GTO for 12k

not bad of a project car (was hoping to look at Buick GSX Stage 1s around here, sadly not any exist in WA for sale :p

I don't think a 41 year old, prone to rot 'gas guzzler' will be a good substitute for your current daily driver. Be a fun second car, though.

That is not necessarily so.
I would put my 44 year old Tbird up against any LS , anytime.
It all depends on if the car was restored, and how it was restored.
Cource, the Tbird underwent an extensive restoration that took the PO 4 years to complete.
This bird is the same as if it were 1966 all over again, and it was just driven from the dealer.
Not all classics are in this condition, but one important thing to keep in mind is, the LS will still be depreciating for the next twenty or thirty years, whereas that GTO will gain in value each and every day you own it.

72 wasnt a highly desired year for the chevelle and i'll bet money it isnt an ss, its either a chevelle cloned malibu or an old 6 banger chevelle that someone made look like an ss. because if it is a true matching numbers 396 ss you wouldnt touch it for 20 g's unless its rotted out and stuffed with bondo. i have a 72 chevelle at my shop that looks great from 20 feet away, the only difference is its a full blown drag car, it doesnt have to be showroom pretty!!!

No idea what you are talking about man, the older cars are really picky on gas, especially high-compression muscle cars. If I don't run 100 octane in my '70 Cyclone it knocks.

thanx hubbard. And thing is too, old cars ran very good on regular grade gas vs my premium on the LS (only kind it likes)

In my 390, I use premium and it runs fine.
By mistake one time I filled it with regular grade #87, and it also ran great, but ford says high octane in these big engines.

Hey Pete,
Now you can drool.

I had one of these in 1980.
Great car and extremely fast.
There was one for sale here in Los Angeles about three months ago that was just like brand new.
If memory serves me, it sold for $50,000.00

A real 72 ss can be had in good shape for 20k. The horsepower was way down in 71 and 72. They are less desirable. If the third digit in the vin is an odd number, then it is a non V8 car. You can also tell that this is a non ss car because ss chevelle dashes had three large round "pods" and three small round "pods". The large pod in the center would always hold the speedometer.

oh yes in deed. I saw a beat up one that was white back in 2005 and was going for 3k :p

I'm not really interested in the Chevelle...just maybe if it was a 454...but still a maybe.....it's not my taste

I'd be looking for

Plymouth Barracuda w/ Hemi Engine
Buick GSX Stage 1
Dodge Charger w/ Hemi Engine
Chevrolet Camaro SS
Pontiac GTO
and I'm iffy about a Mustang......if Ford has any other classic muscle cars I wouldn't mind taking a look at them....

You must have some bucks. Your top 3 are gonna run up to 70k or better for a good example. Not a lot of stage 1s out there. Whatever you narrow it down to, read up on that model and what to look for before you buy.

Pete, if this guy ever decides to sell this car, I'll let you know. It's been completely restored inside and out. The car is beautiful in person and sounds amazing. He keeps it in his garage. He has a two car garage attached to the house and then extended down about 10 foot, there is another garage door where this car stays. Last time I looked, it had a little less than 1500 miles on the engine.

Beats me why anyone would want to settle for some Asian or European new crap when they could be driving something like that.
Damm that is beautiful.
Bob.

both those cars look very nice. What's the stats on the Cyclone?

good thing too about getting an old car, my buddy across the street (known him since I was born) works on classic ford cars. He's got a restored and tricked out 67 Ranchero which has raced and beaten Corvettes, 3 old F150s with glasspacks and One of those old school ambulances like from Ghost Busters...he bought it from a guy who NEVER drove it...it has only 10miles on it!

You can get them with the 351C, 429, 429CJ and 429SCJ.

Top-loader 4-speed w/ hurst shifter or C-6.

3.25, 3.50, 3.91 or 4.30 rear optional in the drag-pak.

....for the most part, the "electronics" in modern cars are less trouble and easier to deal with than tuning an old car.

ooooo sounds fun. Hows the aftermarket for tuning?

please explain. I'd like to hear pros and cons of modern vs classic.

Like i said a classic would be a fun project as the LS can be a b*tch when fidling with it

then again putting the 15k+ in the LS vs buying an old car means you might have the funds to do an engine swap in the LS....

a cuda with a hemi lmfao you obviously dont watch barret jackson much, or, you have uber amounts of money falling out of your ass. my father in law's very good friend dave is a huge mopar collector. he sold a hemi cuda convertible body, just a body last year, rotted floor pans, no trunk floor, no wiring, it was seriously a body on a trailer, but it was a real 1970 cuda convertible hemi car, for $15 grand to some other collector. 15 grand for trash, i dont get people.

buy one of these. only 2 in the world! estimated value $1,500,000

You realize that there are only 14 of those in existence, right? You cannot use that as a basis for any other comparison.

Well, there isn't much specifically for the car, some of the parts are real hard to find.

The engine itself can be found in Mustangs, so all sorts of engine parts can be found.

The rest of the car shares everything with the Torino, so you look for Torino stuff.

To be quite honest, they are a little rare so I wouldn't molest them too much. I guess there are a lot of GT's around but not many Spoilers. I wouldn't mind ripping into a GT.

Here's a GT, only $8,000:

Great car to start out with, not particularly rare, only 62k miles, body appears in good shape. You can hop up the 351 and or you can swap a 460 big block and a 4-speed in there and drive with a smile on your face. Thing looks very unique, you'll get a lot of attention. When I was driving to Wisconsin over the summer every gas station I hit drew a crowd.
