First time removing a drivetrain with a mark viii and a modular.

I've got a 97 parts car, and I want to do this as ez as possible, and remove it all in one lump.

I'm going to cut out the radiator support from the front of the car, and I'd like to drop the entire engine with the k member and front suspension and trans still attached, and roll it straight on out the front.

anyone ever do this? Any tips?? Anything special I should know? I've got extremely limited time to part this out, as it's at a friends house, so I'd like to get this drivetrain out within a couple of hours tops, if possible. (I'm a very skilled wrencher, and so is my friend)

lasersvt's thread on the white car. there is a motor swap in it. they had it out crazy fast.

uh. being skilled and knowing everything aren't the same.
part of that skill he has is taking the time research the removal process.
which he just did. it gives him an early insight into the task coming up.
and who wouldn't want that?

I would think that cutting anything is going to slow things down, Laser and I never cut anything to get them out, even at the JY with the motor/trans that we dragged out of the top

thanks so SO much for the help and that great link guys.

I sure as hell wouldn't have achieved this level of skill if it weren't from researching first. Researching is smart and allows you to avoid many costly mistakes that many others have made.

This research saved me HOURS, simply because I was able to go in and disconnect specifically only what was needed. Had I not read that, the end result would have still been the same, but it would have taken me a hell of a lot longer to get there, and a hell of a lot more parts would have been apart and spread all over the place. Since the entire drivetrain is being re-used for an 88 mustang coupe, the goal is to have as clean a disconnect as possible, as to not lose or ruin any parts.

the end result certainly wasn't 42 minutes, but it was right around 2 hours, and that's not at all bad for a couple of mark viii newbies who've only wrenched on pushrod 5.0 foxes before

Here are some pictures of the fun

I apologize for what may be big and lousy pictures....

this is the end result. It's sitting on the car. It was still over 100 degrees outside, and we got lazy. We'll roll the engine out later this week.

Great job. That will run great in the 88 stang! You really should have came on here and bragged that you did it in 39 minutes and even took a piss break. LOL With that engine you should run well into the 12's N/A.

haha...that's pretty funny!

I've got another friend with an 86 mustang hatch and a slightly modified 03 cobra supercharged drivetrain in it, and it's wicked.

my other friend with the 88 coupe has it converted to a 2.3 turbo, but after riding in the guy with the supercharged 4.6 86, he was convinced that he wanted modular....when I came across this parts car, it was perfect.

he's going to pull apart the motor first just to go through it, and then may lower the compression slightly, as he plans on running either nitrous through the motor or a supercharged application.

when that happens (may be a short while)...i'll post up a project thread here

whoo! well done.
that's an lsc too. wanna pull those side moldings off and sell em to me cheap?? :D
