Duh..where's the horn?

No kidding; my horn wasn't working on my '86 Bill Blas edition so I decided to investigate. Can't find it! Where should I be looking, 'cause it isn't up front by grill where these things usually are.
 
check the fuse, for one.

for two, the location is on the driver side...either by or in the fender or toward the front of the car next to the inner fenderwell, i forget.
 
Well...I don't don't see any horn-shaped object anywhere; looked up the replacement part elsewhere on the web and don't see anything like that under the hood. Also, where are the fuses and circuit breakers located? Nothing obvious in the usual location by the driver's side door, under the dash, but maybe the panel is tucked up where normal sized people can't see it, let alone 300 pound pensioners like me who don't bend too well at the best of times!

Hi.
Our horns are in the fender.
You'll need to open the driver's side door fully. Stand next to the driver's seat, face outward, sit on the ground with your legs under the door. Move your driver's seat all the way back. Raise the steering wheel. Place the back of your right hand on the emergency brake. Your thumb should be pointing at the fuse panel.

Strange but true.

The red #10, 10 amp fuse should be for your horn. Click the image for the article.

Yeah, its in the drivers fender. Body work guys left one of mine unconnected. What a PITA to get in there and even worse to get the connector back on. Got pretty well skinned up before I got it back together. :mad: Good luck.
 
Geeze--did you manage to get that done without taking off the fender? Where did you go in for access? I just managed to get my hand in right at the front and could feel something but Gawd knows what.
Oldschool1: thanks for your help thus far. The fuse panel graphic is great. You know, somewhere on the forum I read that the cigarette lighter and the horn share the same fuse. Do you know if that is correct? Because I have a burnt finger to prove that the cigarette lighter heats up, even if it doen't pop out like it's supposed to!
This horn is getting to be a real PITA and I gotta get it fixed 'cause I'm under order to put it through a safety inspection before I can get insurance.

Yep, as I recall I did go in from the front. Its been about six years. I lost a good bit of arm and hand skin before I finally got the wire back on one of the two horns. That was one of numerous things that were left undone by the bodyshop that repaired my "baby" after my wife had an accident while I was out of the country. For example, can you imagine replacing only one strut?
Shop kept the car nearly two months and she finally said "just let me have the car back." Nearly $3000 were spent on the car after it was returned in order to get it back to pre crash condition. :mad:

That depends on the year of the car.

The above graphic is pre 1988.

Hmmm, now I'm really nervous, 'cause I noticed when I bought my Mark VII that the left front fender was a slightly different shade than the rest of the car and had obviously been a repair of driver's side damage. Damage that may well have included unrepaired horns.
I'd dearly love to know where I could intercept the horn wiring after it leaves trhe fuse box. Might be able to just install another horn instead of futzing around with stuff I can't see or test.

Yeah, Suncoaster, I was considering that too. Went to the local library to see what I could find in terms of wiring diagrams but I didn't find what I thought I needed. (Or perhaps I didn't understand it well enough) Actually considered removing the fender but thought I'd try some more skin removal first. Wouldn't be surprised if one of the real Mark VII experts here on LVC (Oldschool, NYC, One Way and others) has the information that you would need to do a bypass. Good luck.
