i have been seeing exhaust kits all over the place for ls but my question is do i have to buy the whole kit or can i just get the muffler?

is anyone running flowmaster delta 40s?

Dont know about the Deltas but yes you can just get mufflers.

You can also get just mufflers and cats.

Yeah,.. I uh kind of got that impression from the moron that I quoted but I just wanted to make fun of him.;)

Don't go with the Flowmasters, unless you like loud. Most of us here are using the Magnaflows.

Yes you can just buy the mufflers and I like them and think they sound good and not too loud, but I still have my resonators on so they are not too loud. I am sure you can look on youtube for some sound clips.

Don't let JWerner lie to you, he had no clue what bia bia meant and didn't have the intelligence to figure it out on his own and had to ask me.

If you want power, get a full cat back exhaust with magnaflow or whatever brand you like, BESIDES flowmaster. Any local muffler shop should be able to bend up some pipe for you.

If you just want sound, get the flowmasters. magnaflows tend to be a bit on the "too quiet" side.

Does anyone know what it sounds like with no mufflers and 3.5" tips? Just asking, the thought crossed my mind.

Yeah man I have dual super 44,s and they are way to loud. And Sound like crap at high rpm (3000 and up)

so what I'm hearing is anything besides flowmasters. Flowmasters are to loud so go with Magnaflows. My question is Which Magnaflow muffler. Right now i am going for sound til i get the intake in the spring.

Magnaflow part #'s

satin stainless (what I have) - part 11226

polished stainless - part 14326

Here's a video of my LS with just magnaflow mufflers and bigger 2.25" pipe from resonators back. Once I get my hands on some Aeroturbine resonators, I'll go the bigger pipe all the way to the cats.

YouTube - Lincoln LS Magnaflows

I say get the cats and the mufflers to fit the stock pipes if you don't wanna mess with all the pipes.

I also say Magnaflows or experiment with your own but stay the hell away from the Flowmasters!!

I will admit the flowmasters don't flow the best but the sound of a flowmaster is way different than a magnaflow. Experiment with something different but I think magnaflows are played out on the LS and sound raspy at higher RPM unless you get rid of the factory H-pipe and put a X-pipe. ALL THIS IS JUST MY OPINION AND I AM NOT GOD AND THINK EVERYTHING I SAY IS COLD HARD FACTS so don't think that I am telling you to go with flowmaster. Go with what YOU think sounds good.

Normally that "rasp" noise is from removing the resonators. I don't have the noise because my resonators are still on. I will only replace them with other resonators when the time comes.

I got the kit. No rasp noise here, just a nice scream at WOT and a nice deep flow at cruising speeds!

You wont have that rasp if you just splice in mufflers only either but the sound will be a bit off until you get better less restrictive cats.

And uhh that goes for any exhaust rig be it Magnaflow, your own idea's or Flowbastards.

Well the raspy sound that I am talking about is on most 4V engines with Magnaflows. Go listen to a cobra or something else with a 4V engine that has a X-pipe instead of a H-pipe and I bet you will like the sound more no matter what mufflers you choose.

hmmm... so you are saying that I am going to get a considerable sound difference if I keep my current setup, and just cut the H out and weld in an X?

Yep, a X-pipe will change the exhaust tone completely. Bassani makes a univeral X-pipe for under $100. A X-pipe flows better than a H-pipe. That's why most cobras you hear with magnaflows have a bassani x-pipe.

X pipe can actually be a difference of 10hp over a h pipe, thats how well they flow.

i got my 2.5" stainless steel x pipe off of ebay for 32$ plus shipping. Im sure you can find a 2 inch or 2.25inch, whatever the hell it is stock.

Ive always wanted to hear borla XR1 mufflers on it. but there a bit costly.

to make it a bit easier you could also get a bullit style muffler. Like the magnaflow 14416's i have on my car. they will fit where the stock resonators are, and then you can just have the mufflers cut off and straight pipe welded on to whatever tips you so desire.

heres a clip of my exhaust with 2.5" pipe from the cats back, 2.5" x pipe, no resonators, and the magnaflow 14416's.

I'd actuallylike to spend the money on an LSD instead. If I could only find one.... :shifty:

I think that the amount of members that have had problems with this raspy noise have proved that by putting resonators back on helps cure it where you do gain benefits from a X pipe it does nothing much for that raspy sound.

I beg to differ. I have plenty of friends that have 4V cobras and everyone of them and cobra owners all around the states have x-pipes with no resonators. You will eliminate the raspy sound just by changing to a x-pipe over the factory h-pipe. I am not saying that putting the resonators on doesn't help with the raspy noise, it more or less makes the car quieter so you don't notice the sound as much.
