Ok so I pulled the entire center consle out to run all the new video stuff(and to pull the old out) so After all that I went to put it all back and now the e-brake does not lock...(when you pull it it does stay up....) I looked at it and I cant see whats up with it....Im confused...anyone know what I need to do???

I wish I could help you Silver. Sounds like the ratchet mechanism isn't hooked up properly. I'm willing to bet you that if you take it back apart and carefully inspect it you will see how it's supposed to work....and why it's not.

Does your LS have the electric E brake? My 2004 has the electric and I assume all the LS do, but I could be very wrong. The electric brake is that flat pull up "handle" that is about 2 inches square and sits in the flat part of the console. The "handle" is really just the electric switch with a spring loaded return.

You mentioned that it stays up. If the "handle" itself stays up, either somehow you broke the return spring or YOu reassembled things and cause the "handle" to rub against the console or something inside the console.

If the switch returns to normal but doesn't do anything I would suspect you missed an electrical connection or perhaps blew a fuse.

Wish I could help more, but I have not had this problem in my LS so haven't taken a good look. I am basing my opinion on lots of tinkering in my life and my engineering trouble shooting background.

You might have to remove the console again or maybe if you are lucky that part comes out or is on a separate panel. I would take a close look at the console cutout around the "handle" to make sure it is not touching.

Also if you have the electric, how does it feel when you pull it up and if you have to, how does it feel to push it back down? There should be almost no resistance and it should feel a bit springy. If it drags, you have interference. If it is smooth but not springy, then the spring is broken of disconnected.

If you have the old style parking brake lever, then you probably forgot to reconnect the cable.

Just some general trouble shooting ideas.

Thanks Jim I was not blessed with the E(lectronic) Brake....I looked and looked and looked....the cable is still hooked up because it works (if I pull it the brake engages) but it does not racket up....I looked and I cant figure out why....There is a metal plate type thing in there and if I pull the brake and push that the handle pops and goes higher....but there is now way it hooks up to the handle....

If someone has there apart and wants to look at it and take some notes for me.....I would be greatfull......

THanks Jim I was not blessed with the E(lectronic) Brake....

I looked at it and looked at it and looked at it....So I cant see what and why its not working..... If I pull it the brake engages....It just does not racket up....there is a plate under the handle and if I pull the handle and push the plate the handle with pop and move easier(not entirly freely) but there is nothing that it is attaching to ....

If someone has there's apart and wants to look at it and take some notes....I would be greatfull...

Thanks
Dustin

the locking mechanism is actually in the handle it self. Did you take off the leather handle, and the button?

I took of the leather boot....I didnt take off the handle or the button....Its nothing to important.....But it would be nic eto get it working
