Once you review it, can you let us know if there is DEFINITELY a VSS wire for the 2002 V8's?

VSS = Vehicle Speed Sensor.

It should be coming out of the ABS controller somewhere. It does on the gen II, the gen I is what's in question.

Or, in this case, it means Vehicle Speed Signal. There is no single Vehicle Speed Sensor on the LS. It averages the four wheel speed sensors to create the Vehicle Speed Signal. This is not that uncommon on newer cars that have ABS as a standard feature.
