ECM or tune?

Im new to OBDII cars so Please bear with me. I know that on my Gen 1, a w2Z3 ecm is desirable for better performance. on a gen 2, is there preferred ECM or do most owners just tune the ECM they have?

get a tune. i don't think any of the ECMs are particularly aggressive.
