Anyone here know anything about them? I was talking to a guy from a custom shop today, and I told him I use an XCal. He shakes his head, and says something about I should be using the EDGE programmer instead. I figured a programmer was a programmer. What the hell could be so different about it?

See, the info I was finding was more for trucks too. Here's the link to the manufacturer:

The guy I was talking to said they just put one in an LS, but did not have the info on which model they used (he came into my work today.)

Don't see anything on their site that says they support Lincolns. Diesels, yeah. Maybe you should smack him?

Edge is a diesel programmer. The juiced w/ attitude is a bada$$ setup but I have never heard of their name associated with cars ever. Probably just wanted to sound smart so he said the first thing that came to mind. The only gas applications they support are the ford, chevy, and dodge trucks.

There is not benifit to using a particular flash device over another

Think of the Xcal and the edge tuner as an "envelope, that you send your tune to the PCM with".

The majic, is what is INSIDE the envelope, not the package it was sent with.

Personally, the information I know about the founders of SCT lead me to believe that they know far more about ford based drivetrains than any of the other tuner manufactuers.

The same guy that made the J mod possible, also was the key member of the original SCT group.

I know who I put my trust/faith into..

it is a tool to deliver a tune. It's like a LiveWire is better than a XCal2 - the device has more feature - but the tune is the same. the tune is the important part - and unless Edge reversed engineered the Lincoln's PCM deeper than SCT (which is doubtful) then their tune cannot be better than a tune made with the SCT software.

The Lincoln's PCM it unique enough that it is it's own series - and you would have to doubt the business decision to spend any money and developing a new product to deal with the Lincoln's limited market. Back when SCt started supporting the Lincoln - it was going to be the 'next big thing'.

Tuning tools are one thing, then add the experience of the shop making the tune...

That was exactly what I was thinking too. I thought they both tune the car. That's it. He was trying to tell me that with the edge you can change some parameters on the fly though. That I thought was interesting.

my brother in law loves the edge products. had one in his F250 and then got one for his cummins. they are nice in that they aer adjustable on the fly.... but they dont work like most programmers. you dont upload a tune. Its a piggy back type of system. The ecu does its normal thing and it just intercepts the signals and adjusts what happens to ge thte results you are asking it for. Ive only seen em for diesels. They seem to work well for people looking to get decent results, but a quality tune loaded to the pcm (depending on the tune like XLRVIII said) can be much more productive.

Yeah, just got the reply back. That dude I talked to must've had his facts mixed up. Here's the email reply:

Peter,

Thank you for your inquiry about products that will work on your 2000Lincoln LS. At this time we do not sell a programmer for this vehicle but we may be offering a standalone gauge unit that will work on 96 and newer vehicles in the future. Thanks again for passing on the positive feedback about our products.

Sincerely,
Mark Hayward
