Does anyone know a site where i can desifer the code? i have looked at a few topics on this site about the subject but have come up short. The code i got was from autozone he pluged it in under my driverside dash, he didnt have the code book to look it up so i still dont know what it is. the code is P0411. Any help is appreciated.

thanks alot, i guess i just gotta take it to a mechanic to find out the exact problem. I would do it myself but that is probably out of my league. Thanks for all the help

According to the manual I have the DTC code 411 refers to the fact that the engine RPM could not be controlled during the Engine Running Self-Test in the lower band limit. The following is a list of possibilities as to the culprit:

  • Improper idle air flow set.

    Vacuum leak.

    Throttle linkage binding.

    Throttle plates open.

    IAC solenoid contamination.

    IAC circuit short to ground.

    IAC solenoid damaged.

In the manual it also goes on to ask the following....and some of the possible fixes as well:

Does the engine idle speed appear normal?
Yes
Remove IAC solenoid and inspect for contamination. If contamination is present clean if the IAC solenoid is of the type that can be cleaned. If it can be, clean it and reinstall. After doing so, disconnect the battery for 60 seconds to allow the DTC to clear, then reconnect battery and check for the DTC.
If IAC solenoid is not of the type that can be cleaned, replace IAC solenoid. After doing so, disconnect the battery for 60 seconds to allow the DTC to clear, then reconnect battery and check for the DTC.

No
Reset idle airflow (refer to manual)

Hope that helps a bit.

You are right....I had the wrong manual in the computer.....good lookin out JP.

According to the 97-98 manual the following is the possible culprits:

(electric pump)
  • Electric AIR pump fault.
  • Hose from electric AIR pump blocked.
  • Hose from electric AIR pump leak.
  • AIR bypass solenoid stuck open/closed.
  • AIR bypass solenoid leak/blocked.
  • Visually inspect AIR pump hoses from the AIR pump to the diverter valve.
  • Inspect air hoses for cracks, binding, or obstructions.

If there is hoses are not ok drain water (if present) and replace hoses as necessary. If the hoses are fine then:
  • Disconnect air hose from either AIR diverter valve.
  • Check air flow by placing hand over the outlet of the hose. Caution must be observed while performing this test.
  • Key on, engine running.
  • After 5 second delay, air should be present between 30 - 90 seconds.
  • Key off.

If no air is present replace air hoses as necessary. If air is present then check the air pump for water/contamination. If any water present then replace the air pump. If no water present in the air pump then check for vacuum by performing the following:
  • Disconnect vacuum control line from AIR diverter valve(s).
  • Key on, engine running.
  • After a 5 second delay there should be vacuum present between 30-90 seconds.
  • Key off.

If there is no vacuum present check the hoses and replace as necessary, or replace diverter valve(s). Pretty much anything else you will need to take it to the stealership to get it fixed because it requires scan tools and special tools to diagnose.

Hope that helps....and sorry for the mix-up.
