I've said it in the past, McCain could win this by 5 points.
There've been some problems since then, but a 2-4 point win is very likely. Things are trending towards McCain right now. Frankly, if you haven't decided to vote for Obama now, you're going to break for McCain at the last minute.

The Republic may be saved for another few years.

I don't think it is as near serious as you state.
First off, we need to deal with reality, and that being, an Obama assination could happen, and if not, should he not perform as expected, he can be impeached or, a recall initiative could take place so, the country will still be there long after Obama.
